Nice travel guitar because it's very compact. Very good neck and good clean sound (without using the reverb) through either headphones or an amp. My only complaint is that the reverb is noisy. It contains a mid-range hum that is not acceptable. Other than that, a good travel instrument to keep up your playing without carrying a full-size guitar.

Great Guitar, Fun to Play

I bought this guitar about 3 years ago, and have taken it all over the world with me. I knocked it over in my apartment in Tokyo and had the nut replaced with a nice, hand-carved bone nut by a Japanese luthier. I believe it plays louder now. It stays tuned for an extended period of time, and the neck is solid. I've lived in the jungle climate of Singaore and kept it stored in a cabinet of my camper-van. No changes in action height. I'll grant that Yamaha might have cut some corners with the electronics but nothing yet has failed, so that would seem like an empty complaint. It looks great with the maple body and I would buy it again.

Good travel guitar, with some flaws

I bought the SLG100S to use while traveling overseas. First, the good: the guitar is surprisingly ergonomic and easy to hold. The installed L.R. Baggs transducer is responsive and fairly noise-free. And for a near-full scale guitar, it packs compact enough for convenient travel in the included bag. In short, it does its job as a travel guitar. The bad: it might be quibbling, but in light of the fact that import guitars have gotten cheaper and better in the last decade, I was disappointed in the build quality and electronics design of the SLG100S for the price. Some of the fret ends were rough. The saddle is made of plastic and isn't compensated. The battery cover and connectors are flimsy, as well as the AC adapter and connector. It feels as though Yamaha cut too many corners on a guitar that should be priced much lower than it sells for. What you are paying for is the novelty factor, since there are few alternatives for a (nearly) full scale travel guitar. I would recommend playing one before buying to decide whether it's worth the price to you.

I received this as a gift alomst 3 years from my girlfriend & my best friend. I worked as a mechanic for an major contract airline out in Seattle, WA, and often took it with me no matter where they would send me. It packed up nicely & out of the way while I traveled. What really impressed me was the sound! Whether through the headphones, or through my Roland VGA-7 amp. It's crisp, clean sound always comes through no matter where I ended up. And if I am at home, in a hotel, a friend's house, or flying in the back of a plane, it always handy. I still play it almost every day. What a great, sturdy little noise maker! Tred

Professional Sound

This guitar is absolutely outstanding!! I bought the Yamaha SLG100S about 3 years ago and it has been my only acoustic (as I mostly play Fender strats and teles)I have performed over 500 shows with this axe in front of thousands of people; ZERO problems. And literally every night I will get comments on the look and sound. At least 5 people have gone out and purchased one after hearing my performance on it. One wierd thing, it seems as if when you strum hard on it, the sound becomes compressed. Everything sounds really balanced, which is great for me. But the onboard reverb eats your battery 3 times as fast as when its not on. Simple detail though. Great job Yamaha
