Plays Great! I like it.

I played this guitar at a local shop. I tried it because I was interested in a cheap acoustic that I could travel with and not worry about. I was also interested in a standard size, the long fret board and higher string tension of my dreadnaught is a bit hard on the fingers.
This guitar was really a pleasure to play. Easy to play and sounds good for a cheap guitar. I would like to have one but resisting expansion of my collection. I have one electric, one acoustic (dreadnought) and a resonator.
Before I bought my acoustic (about $900), I played a lot of guitars in the $200-$350 range. I wasn't really impressed until I played the more expensive one that I bought. If I had played this one I would have bought it.

I bought this recently because I wanted something a little smaller. I am trying to learn and my full dreadnaught just felt too big to set behind. I was fighting to play cords plus my 16 year old daughter was getting interested in guitars again. She had the same issues with the full size guitars. Comfort is the #1 reason for buying this guitar.
The neck width is still wide enough for my old hands and my daughter says it is very comfortable for her as well. Last night she yelled from the other room "dad, I played the F cord without it buzzing"; I just smiled. I didn't even buy a case because I will be hanging this on a hook so it is always there calling our names. It has wonderful sound but if you like booming lows get the FG750s instead. This guitar is the one you leave out because you won't want to put it down. This will be the one that turns my family into a musical family. Thanks Yamaha!

My Breedlove Dread is to heavy on the bass. My jazz boxes are so . . . jazzy. My classicals are my bread and butter. I saw this little ax at Apple guitars in Portland. Played it, then played the Loudens and Martins. It ain't a Louden or Martin, but damn, for the money this is the best little ax going. It's got a wider nut and saddle so my tango finger chops got some room to play - nice for finger style. The fit, the playability is a joy. This is the one I keep on picking up and enjoying. This is the one I grab to learn a new song on, find different chord positions on. Man, for the money, this is the well made, righteous guitar. It even had good strings on it. I kept it the way it is, set up just right. Yamaha, way to go. I love it.

I had this guitar for three years when I was beginning to learn how to play. I got lot of compliments on how this guitar looks; it does look great but feels even better. I couldn't ask for better beginner's guitar; it always stays on tune and you can play right out of the box. This guitar has OM size body but the depth is about same as dreadnaugh. The bass notes are little weak but overall sound is very balanced; good for travis pickings or playing lead.

I recently purchased this guitar as a Christmas gift for my wife who is a beginner. She has small hands and thus a full size dreadnaught probably would not be as easy for her to play. This guitar fit the bill perfectly being slightly smaller, but still with a nice low end.
Yamaha acoustic guitars are the best value in acoustic guitars. I already own a Yamaha FG-401 purchased in the mid '90s, which also plays beautifully. Not only are they beautiful instruments, they sound and play great, and also will not break the bank.
This was the first time I had a guitar shipped and was a little nervous, but I was happy to find the guitar very well packed with no shipping damage upon arrival. My wife loves it and it looks and sounds great. The action out of the box was pretty good. It could probably stand to be lowered a little and we will be replacing the Yamaha strings (they seem to be mediums) with some light or extra light strings.
My final thought is...this guitar looks much more expensive than it is and with a solid spruce top that sounds great it is an absolute steal at this price!
