I set out for an acoustic electric classical (in this price range) but after playing this one for a few minutes fell in love. An absolute joy to play, great tone, it hits on all cylinders. This guitar is far and away better than other instrumens in this price range. Two thumbs up to Yamaha. (as far as electric in this price range the electronics were prety cheap, figured I'd bet better off with a mic anyway)

laminate top?...so what?

Don't be put off by the laminate top argument... I've been hearing this for years. Some of the laminate guitars sound better than some solid tops, and the view that the sound will worsen over the years is bogus. This is one great guitar, for a very good price...

i have owned a silvertone SC20 for over two years and other electrics. ive had this guitar for less than one hour, and have never been less dissapointed. the sound is freakin amazing and it plays incredibly smooth. definatly a great guitar

Good guitar, but Yamaha's CG111C and Yamaha CG111S have solid tops, run just a little more than the CG101A, and sound far better. The CG101A's laminated top has a lower-quality tone that will tend to degrade over the years. A solid-top guitar can retain its tone for decades.

Alvarez RC10 has a comparable, laminated-top guitar that runs a lot less than this one.

This guitar is an absolute joy to play. Such a warm sound. Something you could expect in the five to seven hundred-dollar range. Belive it or not, it is an absolute workhorse in the studio. When mic'd properly, it blends perfectly as a lead over acoustic rythym signal. Great, great guitar. Yamaha has yet to disappoint me...
