I got this Yamaha AES720 about 6-7 months ago with a free effects pedal. It was my first serious guitar, and let me tell you, its elevated my playing ability to a whole new level. Its a really nice sounding guitar that looks awesome (I have black/blue)! My friend borrowed it to do some RATM songs for a concert and he said it gives a fierce competition to his Gibson Les Paul! He noted that while the pickups where absolutely stunning, they gave a bassier tone than the LP, which is great for the type of music I play. I HIGHLY suggest this guitar.

This guitar can't be beat. The pickups and tuners alone are worth the price of admission. Yamaha got it right with this one, and for the price, you should buy 2. I can't put these down, and they've become my main guitars. I cannot say enough good things about this axe. Should be twice the price. Grab one now.

I've been playing since 1956 and yes, I'VE PLAYED EVERYTHING! I bought this 720 after I'd recently bought 2 other Yamaha's and loved them. The DiMarzio pickups on this guitar are a new thing for me. They're UNREAL for hard Rock, Classic Rock, and Metal. If you know what you're doing, you can get great clean tones as well. However, the twang factor is definitely absent. Great player and the 2 tone Gray and Black finish looks HOT yet classy !! Don't hesitate - this guitar blows away others in its price range

Yamaha got it right

Let me start by saying I own 2 of these guitars. They sound amazing. I have the blue/black one tuned to drop C and the grey/black one tuned to standard. They are really versital. They don't have a coil-tap from the factory, but I have it in mine and it is now basically perfect. They play amazing and sound amazing. The AES bridge is awesome, but the Grover Magnum Lock tuners take a bit of getting used to. They unlock from the top with a penny (much different than Schaller or Sperzel). Let me finish by saying that they also look much better in person. The pics do not do them justice. Play one and you will probably buy one.

This guitar is VERY well designed. Sadly, the Korean contract manufacturer has been doing an unacceptable job. That's why there's so many seconds on the market. The bottom mounting hole for the pots was routed too deep when combined with the AES's top route for Volume/Tone knobs. This left only 1/16" thickness of Korean mahogany to mount the pots. This is not enough material and you cannot tell when you’re buying it unless you take the rear cover and the knobs off and measure. If it's a thin one the knobs will push through the top of the body if they receive even a light or medium impact. Also the rear bucker was badly/crookedly set in its route because the wire channel route wasn't deep enough. Be sure the unit you buy is not of B-stock that has the aforementioned problems.
