The Vox V848 Clyde McCoy Wah Wah Pedal is what a wah should sound like. The original made the sound of a muted trumpet, so Vox recruited trumpeter Clyde McCoy as an endorser. The reissue version is true to the original in most details, including the tone-critical part —- a custom-tuned inductor made by the original manufacturer. It also has some modern enhancements such as a true bypass switch, a newly designed custom-taper potentiometer, and an AC adapter jack.

Vox V848 Clyde McCoy Wah Pedal Features:

  • Sought-after vintage effect from the '60s
  • The original was famous for making the sound of a muted trumpet
  • Reissue contains a tone-critical part, a custom-tuned inductor, made by the original manufacturer
  • True bypass switch
  • Newly designed custom-taper potentiometer
  • AC adapter jack

Sucks tone

It works well as a wah, but when it's off it sucks tone even though it has true bypass. I have other pedals (Fulltone) that do not suck tone when turned off.

I got this as a gift for my birthday last year and I love it. It really stands out on a heavy distortion unlike other wahs I have used. I found that a clean setting makes it have a slight cracking problem. But if you can get past that tiny problem, this is the perfect wah...

This wah sounds amazing when it works properly. It took me a couple weeks to figure out what was making it sound bad. This thing sounds like crap if you power it using anything other than a 9V battery. My guess would be the Vox AC adaptor will work properly as well. I had it hooked up to a Dunlop DC Brick and it made this wah sound like it had wiring problems along with making it extremely loud. But once i just started using a 9V battery and put the wah at the very front of my effect chain, even before the tuner, it has worked flawlessly. it has a great tone

Totally unreliable

First off this Wah sounds amazing when it works. However, after only playing a few hours it started to sound bad, so I sent it to Vox. In about 2 weeks I got it back, and it worked fine again for just a few hours. I sent it back I'm not sure about the other Vox Wah pedals, but this is built by Dunlop so I expected it to be at least reasonably reliable. For this price, this is totally unacceptable.

This is a decent wah pedal, not the best. This is a reissue of the original wah pedal and is built to replicate its sound, so it can only get close to the original sound. The accepted best wah pedal are the RMC's by Teese, however they are very difficult to obtain and this wah would make a good substite consindering that it gets back in stock. The Budda wah is a great pedal but gets a different type sound, it could almost be considered a different effect, but if your looking to get a "wah" sounding pedal try for a teese, but this wah will give a good sound at a cheaper more available price considering it comes back in stock soon.
