The Vox Time Machine dual-mode delay pedal was created in a collaboration between world-renowned guitarist Joe Satriani and VOX. With two delay modes and a Hi-Fi/Lo-Fi switch, it delivers a wide range of delay sounds and yet remains remarkably easy to use.

Two delay modes to handle any situation
The Time Machine has both Modern and Vintage delay modes. The Modern mode mirrors your original sound with full clarity and fidelity, and will fit any style of music. As its name suggests, the Vintage mode delivers the sound of a classic tape delay pedal. A proprietary saturation circuit creates a warm, analog sound with a nice sense of distortion. Gentle modulation is also applied in the vintage mode, reproducing the slight warbling produced by a tape-based delay. The amazing effectiveness is the result of an uncompromising process of testing and refining carried out by Joe and VOX.

Hi-Fi/Lo-Fi switch summons up Joe Satriani's custom tone
Joe wanted to get a sound that blends nicely with the other performers—whether you're on stage or in the studio—and yet also has some thickness to the tone. The solution was to add a Hi-Fi/Lo-Fi switch to the Time Machine. The Hi-Fi mode delivers a transparent, uncolored sound. The Lo-Fi mode, on the other hand, provides a distinctive EQ, combining both high-pass and low-pass filters. This EQ uses filters that have been precisely adjusted to Joe's taste, so that your guitar sound will blend naturally in the mix—without obscuring or interfering with the other players.

Versatile functions equal a diverse range of sound
The Vox Time Machine is an effect pedal like no other, one that expands your sound-creating potential through a variety of practical functions. The delay time is adjustable over a broad range—from 30ms slapback to nearly 6 full seconds of delay*. You can also use the tap tempo switch to set the delay as triplets, eighth notes, dotted 8th notes, or quarter notes depending on the delay range position setting. The chicken-head knobs that are a VOX tradition (and also favored by Joe) allow you to make fine adjustments—even while holding a pick—so it's easy to make quick yet precise changes. There are also two output jacks, so the unprocessed "dry" sound and the processed "wet" sound can be output separately. By connecting these two jacks to different amps, you can obtain spacious delay sounds that are highly effective in any playing environment.

* Maximum delay is 5800 milliseconds when using the tap temp switch and 1000 milliseconds when using the delay control.

Vox JS-DL time machine

To follow up on my last review: I have to sadly report I took this unit back and exchanged it. This is a great echo, great sound, good features, just one problem, IT IS NOT LINE LEVEL. It is made to run into your amp-in line. I like having my amp in line down to essential pedals to keep the line loading and tone buffering down. I run 5 effects which have to be line in and having to put the delay/echo into that was not desirable. An experienced player also knows that a delay into pushed tubes is not good, the compression screws up the echo quality. The same for you young guys running a echo into a distortion, just not good quality tone.

This unit is fine if you have an old Marshall with no loop, but not if you like having your modulation and delay effects in a loop to get them out of the chain and after the preamping.

I got the Boss DL-20 Giga Delay, which dispite being a Boss unit exceeds all expectations and has features you better read the manual to take advantage. Quite amazing actually.

The Vox JS-DL is a good musical echo, if you have no loop it's fine. But it cannot output the +4-5 db a line level requires. It would be nice if they came out and said this. I was suffering a volume drop on the loop when I started looking into the problem and discovered it is only an instrument level unit.

I have a large rig. I am running two Fender 5150 III Heads and three cabs. One Cab has Greenback 30's and the others are those Krank cabs with those Eminence Texas Heat speakers. I like to blend the two speakers since my signal is so dirty anyway. In my Rack I have 1 Korg SDD 1000 and I had an old Vintage Roland SDE 1000 and a 3000 digital delay. Those units in their day were the units to have. I have also owned a MXR 113 Digital delay but it made a little bit of noise and I didn't have the other memory cards for needed memory. I not too long ago bought an Eventide Time factor stomp box. It was too complicated and it seemed to mess up my amps sound or it seemed to have a bunch of stuff I didn't need or couldn't access when I needed to. I even owned a Line 6 Delay modeler and it seemed to mess with my amps sound too. I didn't spend that kind of bread on Amps to then go buy another item that would restrict it's tone or energy. I tried this Time Machine and I am just literally floored! I can't believe the quality of sound and simplicity. For me honestly, the only thing better is a tape echoplex and from what I am hearing it is not too too much better. It is ok but not for the $$. Easy access here too with this green Time machine. I ran the other line out from the Time Machine's Dry output and into my other Fender 5150III and Holy Cow Andy!! I really don't need my other delays anymore. The action, the sound and tap tempo feature!! I love it! Im running a Deja Vibe 2 into my Clyde Delux Waw and then into the Vox Saturator and into my Green Time Machine and into both amps. I sold my Vintage rack delay to buy this with absolutly no regrets!! In fact I want to buy two more of these just to save new in their boxes.

Best Delay Pedal I've Ever Played...Ever.

I used to own a Zoom GT-2 and I decided it was time to start getting some "actual" quality compact effects. Another reason was that I didn't use any of the pre-sets built in. There was only one "patch" i used that I made myself. Ok, so I've decided to get a Distortion, Wah, Flanger/Chorus, Overdrive and Boss Super Shifter and Delay of course. I went searching for a delay and i played all of the Boss ones and the digitech ones and the Line 6 DL-4. Then I saw the Time Machine gleaming up at me from underneith the counter, I asked to try it out and was instantly amazed. It sounds SO good, the best delay i've ever herd. Next best thing is the features. It has vintage/modern it has tap delay, yes, TAP DELAY! And lo-fi, hi fi! I felt like a kid in a candy store. And the colour is pretty rad to :D The reason I gave quality a 4 is that the knobs could be a little sturdier as could the buttons you push down to activate the effect. This pedal is also super easy to use if you can think of a delay timing or style, all you have to do is select how long you want it to go for, tap your foot 3 times and your on you way, literally, thats all there is to it. I can get U2 sounds out of this, David Gilmour blues and of course the Satch's signature delay style. Awesome pedal if you're looking for an easy to use delay with a killer sound look no further than the Vox Time Machine.

This is a fantastic delay at any price and is an excellent choice if your looking for "simple" and "hassle-free" delay. I have a fair amount of experience with a variety of delay units having owned an original deluxe memory man, a visual sounds h20 and a boss dd-6 not too mention having experience playing with units such as the roland space echo(original tape) and Fulltone Tube Tape Echo. I say this only because I'm ready to stack the TIme Machine up against just about any of them in terms of overall usefulness and quality of sound. Obviously certain delays may have more features however in terms of the sound quality this unit tops all others I have played in the digital realm. Clear and distinct without being to brittle in modern modern mode, very warm and tape like in vintage with a slight modulation that adds a sense of depth to the repeats and with the low fi switch engaged it makes the sound even warmer. Add to this tap tempo and a very simple 4 knob interface at a fantastic price I would say Satch and Vox have a winner.

This is an excellent pedal. I could not be any more happy with it. I recently purchased a fender hot rod and got rid of my cheesey amp with effects built in to it (although it served its purpose)- all I need is a delay chorus and overdrive distortion pedal. I refuse to by a cheap ass delay pedal and also refuse to buy a all in one unit as all i want is simple quality. This pedal fills the delay void incredibly. I like the lo fi setting and the vintage sound myself, but the modern is just as incredible. I used it live at my church the day after I bought it and it ran flawlessly and was amazingly easy to set up and get the sound I wanted. If you are looking for a delay pedal I say absolutely go buy this one you will love it. If mine was lost or stolen I would buy one the same day asap.
