Reviewer's Background: Whacke Out Old Fart with more guitars than Talent.
Reviewer's Play Style: I play anything that ticks off the wife.
My wife bought this for me for Christmas last year. I use it off and on. I have been able to overcome the Pop Click issues. This has more to do with your PC than the Jam Vox. It does everything I need it to and more. The GTX is a bit touchy to get perfect, but OK for me. That is not why I bought it.
Being able to import my Music form I-Tunes and play along, learn and practice with my favorite tunes is the reason I got it. The Head Phone jack is why my wife likes it.
This is a tool for Schmoes like me that love to play but work to much to get any good at it. I have to say it has improved my abilities in more than one area. Playing on beat & Hearing Chord progressions are just two examples.
I also love the fact that you Guitar Instructors tabs and down loads help you learn more songs.

When I first got this product, I had the same problems as everyone else: clicking and popping, etc. and I didn't have any idea how to fix it. It was really annoying trying to play with those sounds blaring over my guitar sound and impossible to record because the clicking and popping showed up on the recording. I thought I would have to send it back, but I did some research first. I downloaded the new version online and even though it had some great new features, it didnt' fix the noises. I was angry after that because I really looked forward to recording with this software and possibly using it for some live gigs. I went home that night and decided to do somethng different. I followed the directions. When turned the monitor down before plugging it in to the computer and turning the computer on and not plugging the guitar in until the software was up and running, the program worked perfectly. My dad and I run a sound business and we even used the extraction software to make a soundtrack for a play. It worked great, not perfect, but great. What most people forget is that it's not what the music sound like by itself after extraction, but what it sounds like when you play with it. I would recomend this product to anyone.

The main attraction of the JamVox is its ability to remove guitar tracks from songs. Depending on how the song was original mixed when it was recorded will dictate how successful the GTX function will be. I've found the GTX to work for over 75% of the songs I've tried. Of that 75%, most were very acceptable and many were spot on perfect. It's not hard to do. the interface is fantastic, tones are great and recording couldn't be easier. The software drivers are still a little quirky sometimes and Vox has been releasing updates and improvements already. I have no doubt they will get it perfected evetually.

I've had the jamvox for a few weeks now, so heres what i think.
cons: on my computer (brand new dell) that I bought for the sole purpose of running the jamvox and some recording programs, at times you get alot of snapping and popping sounds, this problem presists even with the recomended fixes that vox suggest's, my salution, I unplug the monitor when it starts to act up, this gives me about another 1/2 hour before i have to do it again. as of today they dont have drivers built to run on vista 64 bit. it took me alot of searching to get a 32 bit computer (vox says they will have the drivers anytime for 64bit)
Pro's : this is a great tool for someone wanting to learn guitar, the GXT sofwear isnt perfect, you wont be gigging with it but if you edit the settings you can get pretty good resaults, but you will never be able to eleminate the guitar tracts
it's a great tool for exploring basic amp and effects pedals, without having to buy them or be a pain at your local music store. You can get a good idea where to run the effect in the chain or through the effect loop.
It has built in drum tracts, but I find that for the novice I think the metredom is a better tool.
For you parents or spouses, the ability to uses headphone is one of the best benifits.
Again it's a great tool for the right person for it's price. Im sure vox will work out the softwear bug's

This is a great idea for home guitar hobbyists, but doesn't even come close to working as described. In fact, I'd almost call a review in a recent catalog which inspired me to purchase this product to verge on false advertising. Let's break it down. First of all the main feature of this product, the GXT guitar extraction software doesn't work at all. You can still clearly hear the guitar tracks and it makes the how song sound like you are listening to it under water. Secondly, the monitor hardware is not very good. At best it is flat and tinny sounding. At worst, in conjuction with the poor software, you get a lot of popping and clicking sounds and other feedback. The product faq's say you can fix this with settings in the software, which is true, but the lag it creates between when you hit the note and the sound comes out is so bad it's not playable. Finally, the sound modeling software is mediocre at best and some of the presets intended to duplicate specific artists don't measure up. The software is also buggy. It crashes a lot, erasing any custom presets you had saved. I had to reinstall the software a half dozen times to get it to work. Very frustrating. All in all, I think Vox should be ashamed of putting out a product like this. My only hope is their "Engineers" are working on upgrades to the software, and I can figure out a way to channel the sound out of my regular computer speakers. If not, I may as well have lit the money I paid for this with on fire.
