Left-facing Right-facing Group Shot, All Cooltrons

With dual channels-each with its own gain and volume controls-and growling tube tone, the Vox Bulldog Distortion pedal adds extra bite to your fret-burning maneuvers. Gain 1 dishes out vintage distortion while Gain 2 packs a more modern, aggressive sound with slightly scooped mids. Both are adjustable from subtle to completely over the top. A Bass control adds extra low end thump at extreme settings and a warm, round mellowness at lower settings. And with the Gain 2 voice control you can independently tailor the second channel's hell-raising tone. A Treble control will take your sound from a biting attack at one extreme to smooth and liquid at the other. The Bulldog also is equipped with true bypass.

Vox Cooltron CT01DS Bulldog Distortion Pedal Features:

  • 2 channels-each with its own gain and volume
  • Voice control on channel 2
  • Gain one dishes up vintage
  • Gain 2 has more aggressive sound with scooped mids
  • Bass and treble controls
  • True bypass

Order the Cooltron Bulldog and sink your teeth into some music.

I don't recommend it without trying it previously, it doesn't have a typical sound. The most i like is it's versatility, it's like having two pedals in one but the worst i consider is it's low volume, lack of bass and cold tone. I am using it for recording alternative stuff, i like it on that style. Try it before buying.

So I'm in a band and we just got all this really nice gear. So the bass player says... "let's see if that pedal can compete with our regular stuff. So hooked up all our recording stuff and began what I consider fun. Cooltron Bulldog vs. Mesa Roadster, Peavey Valveking, and Crate VFX5212T.

We set out and recorded phrase from one of our songs. With all the various amps. Then tweeked the bulldog to match each amp recorded. We couldn't tell the difference between it and the amps. Then I set the bulldog to my favorite setting and recorded the same phrase. It owned them.

So, things I like about this pedal. It extremely high volumes, there is no noise and when you take your hands off the guitar there's no feed back. Simply clean. Batteries go forever. I recorded my bands entire last album on the batteries that came with the pedal. Still haven't replaced them. Purchased a 1 spot for it.

I sold on the bulldog. It has become my signature sound. If you want to hear my album with the bulldog just check out myspace.com/motivebandmusic. I honestly wished I owned this eight years ago. It's so awesome.

I think the tone is great for the price and if you spend time you can get a convincing tone from classic Page or Townsend to thrash metal like early metallica. It won't do insanely distorted tones but it get's dirty enough for 99% of the guitar players out there.

However, it could benefit from more independence between the two settings and a bit more responce when turning the knobs. It's also important to remember what kind of amp you're starting with. If it's a 6 inch speaker cheapy travel amp it won't suddenly become a stack. Also, if you already play a big powerful stack I doubt this will substitute the tone that's already n your amp so keep that in mind. I use it with a Roland JC120 and it sounds really good all together under $1000.

This is an awesome pedal. From dirt, to crunch, to all out, it has the tone. I was dubious about the cooltron technology at first, but I'm now a believer. It is extremely versatile, and it nails the tube tone, that I wanted in a distortion pedal. I wanted it for great tone for practicing at low volumes in my apartment. It does not, disappoint. It sounds great through my fender champ, and epivalve. I can't wait to play it out.

Great sounding pedal. It wont do death metal. But it will get nasty. The 2 channels are worth the price of admission.
