VOX tone that plugs directly into your guitar! |
The Vox amPlug AC30 is a headphone amp that can help you to create the perfect practice session. The tiny amPlug plugs directly into your guitar-then just plug in your headphones and relish some great Vox tone.
Jamming late at night? Don't want to wake the neighbors? Maybe you want to work out a lick with your MP3 player without taking the time to set up your amp. You want to play guitar right now. amPlug is the answer. Simply plug this palm-sized headphone guitar amp directly into your guitar, and enjoy serious guitar sound anywhere, anytime.
Even with its ultra-compact size, amPlug perfectly reproduces the complex and warm distortion that is distinctive of a vacuum tube, as well as the powerful high gain produced by a large amp stack. Using analog modeling technology, the Vox amPlug delivers full-fledged amp sound.
Even the circuit response of the original amp is simulated completely. The simulation extends not only to the response of the tone circuits, but also to the way in which the high frequency and gain are affected when you turn down the volume control of the guitar. Every detail has been faithfully reproduced.
amPlug can be used in numerous ways. With up to fifteen hours of battery life, it's easy to take amPlug anywhere. In addition to practicing at home, it's a great way to warm up before a live performance or on the road. And amPlug is not just a convenient way to get great guitar sound. There's also an AUX input jack so you can jam along with your CD/MP3 player.
AC30 emulates the AC30 top boost sound of a vintage VOX AC30, and uses two natural-sounding gain stages to reproduce the distinctive AC30 tone.
Also available in Classic Rock, based on a UK-made amplifier head, and Metal, based on a California-made high-gain amplifier head.

Neat little thing!

This little thing is just awesome. The portability alone more than justifies getting one. And with a good set of headphones and a little patience, you can get great tone out of this thing. The ability to be able to play along to music via the aux input is just another reason to get one of these. I love mine and I use it pretty much every day. The only complaint I have is that it is kinda noisy. But once you start playing you'll forget it's even there.

Beats other mini amps

I used to have every amplug, but this one was my favorite. It is probably the most portable of the mini amps because it plugs straight to your guitar. No need for a cable from the guitar to the amp. The difference in sounds is great. You can get both clean and crunch sounds from it and everywhere in between. A great feature that was a selling point to me was that you can connect an mp3 player or other music device using a line in connection. The only reason I no longer have any of the amplugs is because I didn't take advantage of them. I have a tube amp that I play nearly all the time and rarely travel, so I didn't use it that much.

Gotta love this little amp. I admit I've never played through an AC30 but I have played the VOX Night Train and this little amp has that same chimey VOX sound that you always hear about. OK, it is made of plastic but it doesn't weigh anything so that shouldn't be a big deal/you're surely not banging your guitars around so just be careful with the little amp, too and it will hold up. I have played this for hours and hours and it still sounds great. I play this thing as much as any of my amps just because of portability and no impact to the fam or housepets. Bear in mind that the sound is somewhat dependent on the quality of your headphones. The gain, tone and volume controls are all of good range and adequate for practice. Just remember that is all this thing is supposed to do. If you have a Strat, you'll love the fit/build; otherwise it just hangs off of your guitar plug - no problem.

Great thing to have

I bought this because I often play guitar along with my computer, in the same room where my wife watches TV. This definitely took care of that problem. The distortion sounds great, sort of a Sweet Home Alabama type of sound. The clean sound I have a little problem with. When I set the gain low enough for a clean sound, I don't get quite enough volume out of it, even with the volume control on max. Kind of marginal there, especially when you have another audio source plugged into it to play along with. With the gain higher, you can get all the volume you want. The tone control also seems to affect the volume level. I use mine with single-coil guitars. I suspect the choice of headphones might have an affect on the volume too, so not everyone may experience the same issue. There should have been more reserve volume in the design though. That's really my only complaint. The plastic construction seems a little cheap, like it's a problem waiting to happen. But so far so good.

I loved this thing. I've had it since it came out. It sounds amazing if you have a great pair of headphones. The only issue I ever had with it which is pretty recent was that the electronics seem to get a little haywire. This thing cuts out like mad after heavy usage, and when you can get it to work the sound comes back all weird and fuzzy with no tone. But I'd buy it. For the time I've had it it was well worth the money.
