The choice of Nashville pros like Brad Paisley and Johnny Hiland. |
As a part of its V2 Series of pedals, Visual Sound is proud to announce the arrival of its original Compressor now in a single pedal called Comp 66. As soon as the Route 66 pedal came out in 1999, Visual Sound started getting request upon request for the compressor channel to be made into a single pedal. Well here it is! This new effect pedal can sound like the vintage Dyna Comp or Ross compressor, only much more versatile.
The Visual Sound V2CMP66 Comp 66 is a compression pedal that has a switchable Tone Control knob and a clean/boost preamp controlled by the Gain knob. The Comp 66 is a powerhouse of compression that's as quiet as a church mouse!
Equipped with level knobs for Comp, Tone, and Gain, it can be set for classic squash or clean boost with the unique preamp stage and Gain knob. This allows for a truckload of clean gain. The tone control can be switched on for maximum control, or off to simplify your tone control to just your instrument knob. 1/4" jacks in and out.
Features a die-cast aluminum housing, ultra-reliable 10-million cycle switching, easy battery access, and circuit protection from AC adapters.

Great pedal, 2nd time

The reason that I say 2nd time is because the first pedal that I recieved was really noisy and crackled when I turned up the gain. Knowing that sometimes a bad one gets out and already owning a Visual Sounds H2O, which I love, I exchanged for another one. Much better! Combined with a tube screamer, this baby rocks! The sustain goes forever and adds just enough extra tone to be very usefull. I don't do a lot of chicken' pickin' but it's there if you want it. Nice for blues too, even with humbuckers

I just received this pedal today so I can't say anything about the longevity of it but I will write another review if something breaks down. I have been jamming with this all day so I have tried all the settings and this does everything I need it to do. It is VERY versatile. I play a Tele through a Musicman 210 amp. I do a lot of chicken pickin' and bending and this compressor really makes it come alive. I've seen a few reviews that say this pedal is not for country pickers, but I don't see why they would say that. This pedal is perfect for Tele pickers or anything else you may want to use it for. This thing is also is very silent when on. I really like the indicator light, it a real bright blue and it lights up my pedal board nicely. It is a little pricey, but well worth the investment.

great quiet compressor

After going through two MXR Dynacomps (loved the Dynacomp, but started making crackling and rustling noises after a few months, went through two of them that failed in the same fashion) I went looking for a different manufacturer for my compressor. I tried a Soul Preacher, a Rocktron Big Crush, and a Line 6 Constrictor, each had the same problem, too much compression, and tons of hiss if used on the distortion channel. I leave my compressor on all the time, to smooth out my clean channel, and to add a bit of sustain and crunch to my distortion, so I was looking for something subtle and quiet that I could run at a low setting. This compressor surprised me right away by being utterly silent, even into a high gain tube amp. Come to find out that it has a built in noise supression circuit, not only that, but there is a switch and a pot on the circuit board itself (inside the pedal) that you can use to adjust the threshhold of the noise supressor, or to disable it completely! A very well thought out feature. The compression itself is similar to the Dynacomp, not entirely transparent, and you can use the tone knob to tweak the tone of the signal coming out, the tone knob is also defeatable. Like most compressors, it will remove a bit of low end, and it will alter your tone slightly, since I leave it on all the time, that's fine with me, because I use my compressor as part of my overall sound. Great pedal, thoughtful features, very quiet, tweakable, and totally reasonable price. Definitely check this one out if your looking at a dynacomp or super comp.

Unusual compressor pedal

I ordered this pedal because of all of the hype about it. I was disappointed in it, possibly because I am used to more expensive or different types of compression ,like the Keeley or Wampler's Ego Compressor. This does not really compress much, but it gives out sustain in waves, it is supposed to sound like a dynacomp when it is not using tone switch, but it didn't to me, I will say that it has it's own sound, Have Heard that Johnny Hyland uses it, but did not know that Brad Paisley used it, He has an endorsesment deal with Keeley and when He does use a compressor pedal, which is not all of the time, He uses a Keeley.

Very versatile pedal. You can set it up to just add some compression while remaining transparent, or you can set it up to be a "solo boost" by bumping the volume, reducing the compression slightly, and adding some highs. Built like a tank, designed such that you can't move the knobs with your foot, which some may consider a bad thing but I consider a plus. And the shape and size make it very pedalboard friendly. Visual Sound is a great company too...I love those guys.
