The Traynor Custom Valve YCV80 2x12 Combo Amp harnesses a complement of 4 - 5881 tubes in the power stage and 3 - 12AX7s in the preamp wedded to a pair of 12" Celestion 70/80 speakers. Nothing matches the rich, creamy distortion and complex harmonics of all-tube output. The tonality and sheer output of the Traynor amp are awe-inspiring. A Scoop switch on the lead channel adds body while an Expander switch on the clean channel opens up a range of crystalline rhythm tones. Included footcontroller switches channels and activates boost. Traynor's DynaSound direct output gives the YCV80 combo the sound of a miked cab for studio work. Speaker simulation on the XLR direct and headphone outputs. A speaker defeat switch is handy for silent direct recording or practice. The parallel effects loop with separate trim pots offers greater effects control while a series effects loop gives you signal path flexibility. Vintage Traynor looks with the classic front-mounted logo on a rugged vinyl-clad plywood cab with chrome corners. The recessed rear control panel is easily accessed while staying out of harm's way. Traynor gives you a 2-year warranty with your YCV80 combo amp.

Very nice two channel all tube 80 watt Canadian made amp. Has super clean channel, and although very good does not quite have the top end sparkle or low end punch of my Fender Twin Amp, better distortion though. It has now become one of my main gigging amps, lighter than my Fender, too. And quiet. This is without a doubt one of quietest tube amps I've played through, even with some of my vintage analog pedals kicked in. I've had no problems with the Sovtek tubes, I'm not going to get into all that NOS tube business. Sovtek 5881s deliver a big round tone and a nice, compressed distortion when pushed and are the most reliable 6L6 dual beam tetrode bar none. To me, if it sounds good, leave it alone, and I get good comments on my tone, so I'm not dropping alot of dough on tubes. Speaker mute switch, XLR out, series and parallel fx loops, just chock full of useful features, not a big fan of the expander feature, though. Nicely done, Traynor.

This amps sound good stock. Sounds much better after a few upgrades. I changed the 12AX7's to JJ/Teslas. Sounded much more robust, a lot more bounce. Still didn't like the overly round sound of the 6L6's. So I changed them to JJ/Tesla EL34's. And I only put in 2 tubes in the middle sockets. This drops the wattage of the amp to about 40 watts. This made the amp sound amazing. Much, much better than it previously sounded. Great clarity, precise smooth lead sound. Just an awesome amp. With the couple of changes, you can't go wrong.

I own a Traynor Custom Valve 80 YCV80 80W All Tube 2x12 Combo Amp with Celestion Speakers for 2 years now. The amp is very well constructed! The clean channel is amazing. The distortion channels although acceptable, seemed to lack clarity and definition. The default pre amp tubes are Sovtek's 12AX7WA and the power amp tubes are Sovtek's 5881WXT. Here is my advice for a killer tone... I replaced the pre amp tubes with Tung Sol 12AX7 and power amp tubes with SED (Winged c) 6L6GC. You won't believe your ears... The sound was far better than I could even imagine... The amp sounds better than Mesa Boogie dual rectifier even than a MarkII after this replacement. Just go for it...

Great amp!

Best of both worlds

After extensive research about which amp was right for me, I finally chose the YCV80. I immediately changed the speakers for Eminence Legends and retubed it with JJ 12AX7's and Svetlana 6L6GC's as I'd heard how poor the stock units performed. Once this was done this amp is an absolute marvel. I always dime the master volume to really get the tubes cooking, and because the reverb is tied to the master so you need to have it up to get full use of the reverb. First off, the clean channel is like nothing you've ever heard. People should use this clean as the industry standard because Fender's can be too sharp sometimes, but not this clean channel, it can be as bright or as warm as you need it to be. It's wonderful. Plus, the expander switch is really cool as it adds a sort of acoustic sparkle to your clean. Next, the dirty channel is everything from warm blues to marshall JCM800. Think Slash from Guns N' Roses. And if you use the scoop switch and engage the boost, Metallica-esque metal is all there. Harmonics on this amp are a thing to behold, and string dynamics are up there with the best and most expensive amps I've ever heard. Simply put, this amp is an excellent all around performer. It falls short in no category as far as I'm concerned. Oh, and IT IS VERY LOUD! It's built like a brick sh*thouse and Traynor's warranty is the best thing since sliced bread if you actually do manage to break it. Don't think, just buy it.

Solid Amp With Major Potential

This is a very good amp for the money. Tons of headroom on the clean channel but the dirty channel left me cold. Also, the amp really lacked low end and soul. I know this is an open back amp but still. The Celestion 70/80 speakers and Sovtek tubes were the cause. I swapped in a pair of Celestion Greenbacks and some vintage Sylvania 6L6GC power tubes(interchangeable with 5881's) and some vintage Sylvania 12AX7's pre-amp tubes and now this amp is a tone monster. The dirty channel is very Marshall like but what is really nice is the clean channel. Sweet and soulful with the channel volume at 5 and the master at 4. But when you dime the clean channel volume the harmonics are unreal. Real tube distortion. Spongy and singing. I use a 58 Les Paul reissue straight into the clean channel with a touch of reverb. No effects. None needed. This amp sounds that good now. Do yourself a favor and try it. You will not be disappointed. These two mods really wake this amp up. I guess they had to cheap out somewhere so speakers and tubes must have been where they did it. These mods were not too expensive (300.00 plus the price of the amp) but the return on investment is well worth the price. This is a long haul amp now. It is solidly built. The only other mod I would recommend is a fan for the back. The amp does tend to get hot after a set. The control panel gets hot to the touch. That's a common problem on amps of this design. For the price of the amp plus the mods, you are still getting a bargain. Most twins of this design are only 50 watts. This amp is conservatively rated at 80 watts. Bottom line, a really good amp that can be outstanding.
