unbeleivable tone from this thing!

maybe it's the mahogany body and neck, maybe it's the fact that it's got so little wood mass that the strings make it resonate more than a full size, but whatever it is this thing has FANTASTIC tone. the single pickup sounds rich and full, and the strat-scale feels great. my only gripe is that they placed the volume knob after the internal amp, so when you turn down the volume while using the built in distortion, all you get is db decrease, it doesn't roll off the gain. i am currently deployed to iraq, and i have recorded quite a lot of metal with it using guitar rig 3. as far as tone goes, i think i would use this for all future recordings. it's that much better tone compared to my viper 400. one thing to watch out for is the way that it's made, it takes a LOT of string to reach from the end of the nut to the tuners. i got some BlueSteel strings to replace the dean markleys it came with and they almost didn't make it far enough. the D string had to be wound with only the core through the tuner, which made for REALLY bad tuning stability, along with the G string, which barely made it as well, and we all know how fickle G strings are. the factory strings stayed in tune all day long. you will love this guitar!

Too Cool

I had been looking at these but just couldn't pull the trigger without holding/trying one first, so had to wait nearly a year, as I live overseas. I finally made it to a dealer in the States and must admit that I was initially put off by the feel, as it was so damn light. I ended up picking it up anyway, as it simply makes the most sense of all the travel guitars out there.

I have quickly gotten used to the feel of it and really enjoy playing it now, regardless of whether I'm traveling or simply grabbed it because it was closer than my other guitars (which it often is because it's so handy and small you can tuck it nearly anywhere.) As the ads suggest, you can forget you are playing a travel sized guitar. However, the nut width is a touch narrow and I do notice this difference. I've also had to make a slight adjustment to where I place my pinky of my strumming hand. I normally have my pinky on the top of the guitar as an anchor/reference point and have had to move it slightly, as it would sit on one of the tuning keys.

It is very solidly built and very attractive. I have the natural which is partly why I went with the Mahogany version. There are one or two spots where the lathe work left marks in the grain, so not perfect but nothing that would bother most folks. The neck feels very nice - just a touch rounder and narrower than the "modern-C" on my American Deluxe Strat. (The neck does not feel quite as nice as the strat.) The headphone amp is a bit wimpy, but does the job fine. It is VERY easy to bump the amp switch on and run the battery down in the bag.

The thing is tiny and amazingly light. I recently flew with it and nobody even noticed it was on my back, so I think you could carry it and another bag and personal item without anyone hassling you about the extra carry-on. It was awesome to strum a bit during layovers.

Well worth the money - no regrets - grab a VOX DA5 or Micro Cube to go with and you are set.
