Sound and feel that's unique, yet quintessentially Taylor. |
The Taylor solidbody is a completely original electric guitar design that reflects the same spirit of innovation and pure love for guitar building that has propelled Bob Taylor since his humble beginnings as a luthier in 1974.
The Taylor SolidBody Standard Electric Guitar is constructed with a sapele back, flame maple inset top and a contoured single Florentine cutaway body design. The proprietary Taylor Style II open-coil humbucker pickups are designed to deliver the sweet tones of a low-output vintage pickup, but with enough power to fully drive any amp.
Other exclusive touches include the Taylor profiled 24-7/8" short scale neck with 22 frets and the ultra-stable, single-bolt T-Lock neck-to-body construction; a sleekly sculpted, "invisible" adjustable all-aluminum bridge; volume and tone knobs that are specially contoured for maximum control with unique 5-way switching capabilities.
Five pickup settings with carefully chosen voicings give you a great range of tones:
1) Neck pickup
2) "Skinny neck tone"-two inside coils from both pickups wired in parallel
3) "In-between rock tone"-both coils of neck pickup combined with the inside coil of bridge pickup for classic bright single-coil tone with the added fullness of neck tone. Great for semi-distorted amp setting.
4) Fat single-coil-two inside coils from both pickups in series (north from neck and south from bridge) creating, in effect, a 4" humbucker.
5) Bridge pickup
This beauty has a sound and feel that is unique, and yet quintessentially Taylor.

Absolutely beautiful guitar in my eyes. Very well made with great woods and precision craftsmanship. The electronics are visionary. It isn't a Fender and it isn't a Gibson, it is somewhere in between and beyond. They are very versatile. I can literally flip the switch on this thing and dial in a tone for country, blues, rock, funk, folk, jazz and anything else that I could possibly think of. I have never (twenty years of playing) had a guitar that sustains so beautifully like this one. I have never had an *electric* guitar where each note and each string rings as true and distinctly as this one. It truly is a pleasure. I will always keep my Fender Strat and GLP for recreating the old sounds I am familiar with, but I've found a new keeper too, and this keeper will be for sounds that are distinctly mine.

I waited 4 months for this guitar. I already have a custom shop classic strat and tele (both V necked) an Eric Johnson strat (my favorite) and a 52 ri hot rod tele. I was very very disapointed...3 times it let me down during shows!!! Crackling sounds from pots and blade switch, replacement of tone pot and for good measure a wire that got loose (bad soldering job). Its a Taylor for the love of God!!!! Anyway I had it repaired all 3 times and sold it for very cheap...sorry but no more, lost confidence... thank you.

I bought my Taylor Solidbody Standard when they first came out because: a) I already own two Taylor acoustics and a T5, and b) because the Solidbody was just as well crafted as any Taylor. I took my prize to my band's rehearsal that same night, excited to try out my new axe. The body was light and comfortable, just as the other reviewers have stated. However, I was extremely disappointed that night because it didn't sound like my Strat or my PRS, and I put the guitar in its case for three months. Recently, I decided to take the Solidbody to a Rock/Blues gig this last week and would alternate playing it with my PRS McCarty. I started with the Solidbody and I didn't put it down all night! The tone is clear and cuts through the mix and the pickups are EXTREMELY versatile. I used it for for everything from slide, to clean rhythms, to searing leads. Thinking this might be a fluke, I played the Solidbody with an R&B band one night and then in an orchestra pit the next and I am still experiencing tonal bliss! Now, instead of keeping it in its case, my Solidbody is the first axe I grab on the way to the gig. The Taylor Solidbody Standard is not a Strat or Les Paul clone, but rather it's a fresh sound that one needs to experience to appreciate - sometimes more than once.

Simply put, this is a Les Paul killer. The pictures here don't do it justice - the flamed top is absolutely beautiful. The body is chambered to save weight and has a wonderful, almost acoustic quality before you even plug in. It is a Taylor, after all. The bridge is a work of art, and has no sharp edges. Mine came perfectly intonated, and even after many string changes, I've never had to adjust the intonation - or the action, or anything else. Taylor takes the time to set these up right, and I'm pretty picky. The humbuckers are very hot, but they don't sacrifice tone. You'll definitely be using the volume knob on this guitar to drive your amp. The tone knob is also noteworthy: up to halfway, it operates like a normal tone knob. Scoop it all the way and it sounds like a wah pedal in the half-cocked position. I never knew I needed that till I had it, now I use it for everything. And yes you read it right - dual humbuckers and a 5-WAY SWITCH. It's possible to coax single-coil tones from this guitar. Beautiful top, smooth ebony fingerboard, great tone, great playability, stays in tune forever, best quality guitar I've ever owned, bar none.
