Bold, bright tone from a real looker! |
The solid Sitka spruce top on Taylor's GS8 guitar belts out a lot of volume with tight bass and pronounced, crisp highs supported by the gorgeous Indian rosewood back and sides. Comely cosmetics include gold-plated tuners, ivoroid body and fretboard binding, abalone rosette and microdot fret markers, bound ebony fretboard, and ebony bridge.
Bob Taylor personally designed the Grand Symphony body style for a unique sound. The higher, wider waist and a rounder lower bout you get in the GS8 guitar result in distinctive tone with deep piano-like bass, rich mids, and clear, balanced highs-all with plenty of volume.

Great Guitar - Here's Why . . .

I have been playing guitar on and off for 20 or so years, sometimes gigging and sometimes hobby, and am very picky about tone. I have had a Taylor GS8 with ES for about a year now. I originally was looking to purchase an 814ce but ended up with the GS8. When I first got GS8 home, although it sounded great to me, I took it back and got the 814. I strummed the 814 one time, acoustically, and just about cried because it didn't sound nearly as good as GS8. I took it back and got GS8 and have been happy since. Since then, I've read a couple of product reveiws saying the GS8 was average, overrated, etc . . . There is no way. I have, and continue to look for a better acoustic guitar and if I find it I'll buy it. I've played, and continue to play, many high end acoustics and none have the sound of the GS8. Also, I'm into songwriting and haven't found a better guitar for that either. The only thing I can conclude about the couple of comments about the guitar being mediocre is that they're looking for a particular sound that the GS8 doesn't provide. If you're looking for a solid, all around acoustic guitar, this is it.

Overrated Guitar at best, sorry Taylor fans.

I played several Taylors, Martins, Gibsons and others. The GS8 is a nice looking guitar but looks do not always equate to great sound. I rate it average for features simply because it's an acoustic guitar 1st and it works as an acoustic. However, I think Taylor is more committed to making an acoustic guitar that is plug in ready than a great sounding acoustic guitar.
The build quality is very nice. But, again, build quality and looks don't always mean great sound.
Because of the price (nearly any Taylor) I've got to rate the guitar a little under average. A guitar at this price point really needs to excel more at sound than looks.
Overall, this guitar fails--like so many Taylors and Gibsons. I'm not here to flame Taylor exclusively. Heck, it's not blasphemy to knock an inanimate object. Bottom line? Taylor is over rated. That being said, I wouldn't buy an import because they define horrible sound. I'll buy the best--Martin.

I got this guitar last night. I have never played a nicer guitar. I have played every martin and taylor, alvarez, yamaha, gibson, fender acoustic within a 20 mile radius of my house. All of guitar centers collection and all of my local acoustic shop. This guitar is the best guitar i have ever heard. This pic doesn't do it justice, go to TAYLORs website. If you buy this you will play guitar every second you have available.

i was not a Taylor fan until I purchased this guitar today. I have been playing it in a music store for a couple of weeks and decided I couldn't live with out it. The neck is silky from top to bottom. The bass to bright range is exceptional. I like the bright end that the Sitka Spruce produces. This is definitely a keeper! Buy this guitar and you won't be disappointed.

I'm a long time player (38 years!). "Old Guild" and Martin have been my favorites. I had compared many high end Martins and this had the biggest, most balanced tone of all. Neck is very similar to a quality Martin. A little better. The 1 3/4 nut is a plus for fingerpicking. Finger picking style (especially with finger picks) is great with this guitar as far as sound. The 13's are a little heavy but do provide a great boom and sustain that lasts a solid 10 seconds! Putting 12's does take away from some of the impact...Better to use 13's and tune down 1/2 step. I have to admit the Elixer strings are the best choice for this guitar! (I usually use Dean Markely) I have the Expression System that I'm very happy with.
