Laser Beam Accuracy

When I first played a Taylor 614ce I though "WOW, what great guitar. If only it had a little more bass...." Sure enough I didn't have to look to far! I currently own 3 Taylors, the other two being solid rosewood (DN8 and 414 Ltd) and this ismy first maple guitar. It rings clear as a bell, with laser beam accuracy and enough punch to mimic a piano. When played finger style the GS6 hits every note on key and when strummed it goes great with another instrument (such as drums). Not many frills and bells/whistles, just hardcore acoustic purity that many "new" guitars seem to lack nowadays. Taylor-built quality that will last a lifetime and beautiful quilted maple back and sides. Highly recommended to those who favor clarity and tone over boominess and muddled mids of so-called "cannons"

I was fortunate to have an excellent player audition loads of guitars for me while I got the audience perspective of the sound. I guess commissions do motivate. Martins, Breedloves, Taylors, Guilds, Gibsons, Seagulls, Rainsongs(surprisingly nice sound BTW) and who knows what were played for me. What a treat. The GS was my hands down choice although some of the $3k dollar guitars were fabulous. I chose on the sound and didn't pay much attention to looks until later. Nice and loud, articulate and well defined with chimey highs and ringing mids. Not the least bit harsh, which seems to be a common complaint about maple guitars, and I preferred the somewhat brighter character of this guitar over the rosewood model. It has a smooth, rich bottom end. And although the bass is loud it doesn't get at all muddy or boomy. I suppose what I like most is that it doesn't compress or rattle when strummed hard. In fact for a new guitar the dynamic range is quite remarkable and I look forward to the sound aging. I don't play finger style and I play mainly pop/rock type stuff so I wanted a guitar that projects well and sounds good alone and unplugged. I've recorded with it and it sounds great dry. The perfect fitting Taylor deluxe case is really just beautiful with a gator skin texture and gold hardware (5 latches and a lock). I usually don't care much about pampering a case but I know I'll feel bad about beating this one up.

I played on the Taylor GS4e LTD in a local store and was simply blown away. Not the same wood combination mine has the Tasmanian blackwood back and sides. But would be similar in tone to the mahogany. Just a touch mellower. The highs are bright and crisp, the mids pronounced and full, and the bass is tight, snappy, and robust. Not lacking in bass at all. Usualy you have to sacrafice one end of the spectrum in a guitar not so in this case. No idea how they did it but this guitar is solid gold. Has the overtones of a small bodied guitar, the rich midrange of a grand concert, the bass of a dreadnaught, and the volume of a jumbo. Still cannot figure how it is possible to get all these qualities into one instrument. I only have one small issue with mine and it is very small and probably just on my guitar. Where the side meets the neck on one side there is the smallest gap, and I mean it is very very small but you can see it if you look very close. This was the LTD model with the es system so I cannot realy complain since the other models are 500 more without ES system. And since they only make a very limited number og the LTD's from 3 - 500 . It was the last one in stock at the Taylor dealer in my area so I placed on layaway even with this very small flaw. The guitar is absolutely gorgeous and aside from this one small issue the craftsmanship was perfect. The tone is to die for. It was that sound I have always heard in my head of the perfect acoustic but could never find. That one guitar a musician seeks for his entire life sometimes and never finds. I do not think I will ever need to be looking for another guitar. If anything ever happened to this guitar I would replace it at any means.

The Acoustic, Acoustic Guitar

I've owned many Acoustice guitars over the years. I've owned many high quality guitars in and above the price range of the GS. I've tried, played and expieremented with body shapes of all kinds. THis is the guitar for me, no doubt. I believe this is what a lot of players have been waiting for. Anything from Folk to New age this is it. It's just got that zing to it.(put a nice tube mic in front of it, the recording is remarkable)

I play all kinds of music, and I have owned many guitars. This is by far the best sound I have ever heard from a guitar under $3,000. The maple adds an incredibly bright sound you won't get from any other guitar. i highly recommend it.
