The electric guitar reinvented from the ground up. |
The Taylor solidbody electric guitar has arrived! Featuring original design pickups, a sleek all-aluminum bridge, fresh body design, proprietary neck-to-body construction, and unique switching capabilities, Taylor's innovative imprints are all over their Classic Electric Guitar.
The unique Taylor-designed pickups are the foundation the Taylor solid bodies are built on. The Classic is loaded with 3/4-size humbuckers featuring a new type of magnet and special winding process. The combination creates vintage humbucker sound with the power and dynamic range of modern pickups.
Five pickup settings with carefully chosen voicings give you a great range of tones:
1) Neck pickup
2) "Skinny neck tone"-two inside coils from both pickups wired in parallel
3) "In-between rock tone"-both coils of neck pickup combined with the inside coil of bridge pickup for classic bright single-coil tone with the added fullness of neck tone. Great for semi-distorted amp setting.
4) Fat single-coil-two inside coils from both pickups in series (north from neck and south from bridge) creating, in effect, a 4" humbucker.
5) Bridge pickup
The swamp ash body is beveled on the back, sides and in the cutaway so you're always playing in comfort and able to easily reach the upper frets. The maple neck features the single bolt T-Lock™ neck joint that pulls the neck into the body. The simple yet ingenious jigsaw joint shape provides a set neck feel and accurate intonation.
The bridge, also Taylor-designed, is amazing smooth across the top. It looks and feels clean and classy. No exposed adjustment screws to clutter the looks or get caught on.
Even the Classic's knobs are a departure from standard fare: elegant looks with a lipped edge that allows great one-finger control. Sweaty hands? Taylor includes rubber O-ring grips that slip over the knobs.
For years, Bob Taylor was asked if they were going to build a solid body electric, and for years, the answer was no. Bob's thinking was simple: he wasn't going to build a solidbody electric unless he felt there was a real reason to. In other words, he wouldn't put the Taylor name on a guitar that was just another version of what already existed.
For this electric guitar to happen, it had to be innovative, unique and worthy of a place alongside the guitars that electric guitar players have loved for generations. When the design group at Taylor invented new pickups and Bob heard them, he knew the time had come. Starting with the pickups, each element of this solid body was designed from the ground up. The ingenuity that Bob Taylor insisted on resulted in the creation of an electric guitar that's sure to inspire and well-equipped to impress.

Wow, this guitar is really something. It has a cool "vibe." The new Taylor designed mini-humbuckers sound really cool. I first tried this guitar out with a small Orange tube combo, and I was blown away. The best thing about this guitar is the Plug and Play pickguards that you can buy for this. You can switch from Single coils to Humbuckers in about 10 minutes with no soldering by switching pickguards, which makes this guitar pretty versitile for at least studio recording. The mini-humbuckers themselves are also very versitile through my Line 6 X3. I also own the SSH pickguard. The only thing that bothered me at first were the rather large (tall) frets. The neck plays super fast, but you have to get used to the larger frets when sliding large distances. However, after a little bit I really didn't notice anymore. Overall, this guitar is another quality piece of work from Taylor. I am now torn between this and my 410...

I own it I was going to buy (AS) fender stat., about grand, guy at the store says I should try out the taylor I played both and took the taylor home. You can buy a fender that would sound this good but you going to have to spend a lot more money. So thats the point.

A Great Guitar!

I had been shopping around for quite some time when I finally decided to try out a Taylor electric. After being disappointed by both Gibson and Fender for so long, the Solidbody Classic is a breath of fresh air. It’s true, a guitar is a guitar, but this Taylor is a rethinking of electric guitar design in practically every way. For years the other guys have been using the same clunky bridge designs, but not Taylor, they came up with their own design and you can’t even feel it when you play; not even when you palm mute. This guitar’s pickups are extremely touch sensitive, sweet sounding and really push a tube amp when you strum the guitar aggressively; the guitar responds like it should. Finally, I’d like to point out how sensitive the guitar’s tone knob is. At first, I thought that the tone knob wasn’t working, but it turns out it was just working differently than I expected. Instead of becoming more bassy as you roll off the tone, the highs are simply cut down and the bass remains unchanged. This allows you to really dial in the exact amount of high end that you want. If you roll the tone all the way off, you get a very usable wah type of sound from the guitar with no effects pedal needed. I just realized that I forgot to mention the outstanding build quality of this instrument. Everything used in the construction of the Taylor Solidbody is of very high quality and all of the components come together to create a unique and meaty guitar. The guitar looks kind of small, but when it’s in your hands you can feel how well it is put together and the whole thing is very smooth overall.

Freak-A-Leak, this guitar is not only extremely comfortable in the hands, it plays as smooth as glass. It has so many different tones thanks to the 5 way coil splitting selector, and I honestly think this thing is worth every penny I paid. If you are tried of having the same guitars as everyone else (ie. Les paul/strat/telly) and want something that sounds awesome, without looking like a dope on stage, this is the ‘artistic tool’ to pick up. I am really impressed, and the transparent white lets the grain of the wood show through, just awesome aesthetically, if I didn’t love music so much, I’d just put it on display in my house lol...

I was first introduced to this guitar at my local music shop. I played a few Paul Reed Smiths through a Marshall tube head. I wasn't moved because you're not allowed to crank the amps up in the store anyway. Then I grabbed this new Taylor that had arrived at the store a few days earlier and plugged it in. I was actualy suprised at how it sounded through a tube head at such a low volume. The pick-ups on this guitar are sensitive to touch. It is a pretty clean sound and I definitely enjoyed playing it for the few weeks that I had it. I traded one of my Paul Reed Smiths for a while with a friend. This guitar has a very exagerated Fender Strat sound to it. It does not really support the sound you would want for playing hard rock or something of that nature. The bridge is designed a little different than a typical guitar. The strings come from the bottom and run off of a single point. This give the guitar a lot of 'twang' to it. Take a look at the bridge in the photo, you'll see what I mean. This guitar would suit a country player or anything of that nature, and I have to say it does work very well for playing any AC/DC. Lastly, the neck on it is about 1/8in wider than that of a standard neck. If you like to beat on your guitars than this guitar might not be for you. The guy I borrowed the Taylor from had a rough time with the action. He played an entire gig with this guitar and he really hammered on this guitar. With the action wider, it made his fingers bleed. So think twice about this one if you're like that as well.
