Before posting I read a lot of these reviews and respect the different opinions. Honestly, these are not $1200 guitars so you get what you pay for. That being said, here is what happened with us. Recently I was on a trip in Seattle WA with my friend and we needed guitars to play on around the pool. I build and customize guitars as a serious hobby, so set up and tone is important. We both play together often a wide venue of styles.

We went to the Music store and tried various “back packer” guitars, from the Martin, Dean, Yamaha and few others, all side by side. Hand down the Taylor has more bass and better sound.

Yes, this is not a full sized guitar so you’re NOT going to get a full sized sound. But better than the ukulele tone from some of these. The secret is the arched back on the guitar that gives it more bass and resonances. I laid down the cash and bought 2 of them. Love them.

I bought one of these in 2000 after seeing "E" from Eels playing one in concerts.

I was intrugued at such a nice tone from a small guitar.

The mahogany gives it a nice depth of tone but it is in no way 'muddy'. Nice and full is more like it.

I also found that it sounded great in open-tunings.

I have nothing but great things to say about this guitar. Great to sturm on around the house, take to work or school to play on lunch breaks, nice easy size for travel... I have nothing but praise for this guitar.

Bought this guitar after a few days of hard yard work. A great purchase. At the time, I wasn't a very good guitar player. This was my first acoustic, and a great one at that. I still love to play it. It has a very bright tone (due to its size). Mine came with elixir's, making it very easy to play. It's a very down to earth acoustic. For the price, you can probably pick up better acoustics (alvarez...), but still a great buy. Starter's may want to go a cheaper route, but for travel - you can't beat it.

Been playing for 40 years and owned a few Taylors. I expected a lot more of a Taylor product. Seems like Taylor or it's retailers one are trying to slide by on the name and to the devil with quality and the paying playing public. Fretted poorly, buzzed like a bumble bee and poor finish. VERY disappointed.

A friend of mine gave me this guitar right before he went to Iraq about 3 years ago. Since I was just starting out, this was a perfect guitar for me. Its small, surprisingly great sounding, and low maintenance. After a while I started getting better and upgraded but I still love to jam on this guitar. Its great to play in the backseat of a car while traveling. easy to pack, and good to just pick up and run to someones house and jam. Buy it. You won't be disappointed, don't let size fool you.
