The supple, responsive tone only red cedar brings. |
The Taylor 714-CE Grand Auditorium Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar combines the full-bodied sound of Indian rosewood with the responsiveness of a Western red cedar top to create a fingerstyle workhorse. Equipped with the Taylor Expression System and cutaway, it has the tools to shine in any music venue. A Western red cedar top coupled with a rosewood body provides the ultimate in responsiveness without sacrificing tone.
The grand auditorium body design combines the width and depth of a dreadnought with a narrower waist. Its sleek design yields a strong treble zing across the tonal spectrum and sharpens the definition of individual notes. The Taylor Grand Auditorium is a strong fingerpicking guitar that also adapts well to medium strumming.
An abalone soundhole rosette and the Indian rosewood binding and headstock overlay are warm, natural accents to the Taylor 714-CE.
Designed to faithfully reproduce your guitar's native tone, the Expression System utilizes patented Dynamic Sensors to capture top and string vibration like never before. Created in partnership with renowned audio pioneer, Rupert Neve, the Taylor ES is seamlessly integrated into the design of the guitar from the ground up. Onboard tone controls provide added flavor, or set flat for an uncolored, exceptionally clean amplified sound.
The finish used to create this guitar's lustrous gloss top, back, and sides was developed at Taylor for maximum durability and resistance to cold-checking. This ultraviolet-cured finish is also more environmentally friendly than traditional lacquer finishes.

An acoustic dream!!!

3 years ago, I had every intention of purchasing a Martin D28. From the first time I picked this guitar up, I knew I had found what I was looking for. If you are looking for a large, warm, rich, acoustic sound every time you pick up your guitar, look no further. These grand auditorium Taylors absolutely explode with volume!! I am a professional musician, and am EXTREMELY picky about the live, acoustic experience. My observations:
simple, tasteful appointments. (not overdone with extras)
the voice of this guitar is HUGE!! I love resonant instruments!!
Rosewood/Cedar combination: Dark sounding, yet warm resonant tones....incredible!!
I have yet to find another guitar builder that makes more consistent sounding instruments than Bob Taylor and friends. Job well done.

714CE-2009 Spring Limited

I just bought a Taylor 714 CE after a whole year of playing and reviewing other guitars. I own a Takamine guitar that I got when I was 16 (which I highly recommend for a beginner). After years of playing and gaining experience, I decided that I wanted to upgrade to a fine, well crafted, instrument. I started looking at Martins (the D28 in particular), higher end Gibson acoustics, and I also played some Fender acoustics. After playing these, the Martin stood out. I then made a visit to a local music store who had just become a Taylor dealer and fell in love with the 714. The Martin D28 is a fine instrument but just did not have the versitile tone that the Taylor produced. The guitar that I ended up purchasing was a 2009 spring limited 714 ce. The difference between the limited and the regular is that the back and sides are made of Madagascar Rosewood instead of East Indian Rosewood and the top is made of Sitka Spruce. Both of these changes effect the sound very, very, little from a regular 714 with the East Indian Rosewood and the Wester Red Cedar top. The guitar is awsome. The tone of the rosewood blows you away. Deep lows, great resonating mids, and sparkling highs. The neck has a great feel to it and the action is nice and low with no buzzing. The electronics are the Taylor Proprietary Expression System. The system really maintains the acoustic tone through a sound system. The quality of the craftsmanship is evident after just one look.. It also comes with one of the best guitar cases that I have ever seen. Expect to pay, but in my book, you are getting exactly what you paid for.

714ce absolutly unbeatable!!!

I play bluegrass gospel in our family trio. I was looking for a Martin d-42 d-28 so I went to a local guitar shop and played them all (Martins). I was happy with the Martins, but being the curious person I am, I saw the Taylor line and I picked up the 714ce and the rest is history. "Sold!" I finger pick and strum and the 714ce Taylor is far superior. The fretboard is fast and smooth, and because of the medium to medium/low action it chords easy. The western red cedar is warm, bright, and the bass strings are loud and clear. Also the expression system electronics is unbeatable. It sounds beautiful plugged in with no vibro-buzzing at any level. If you are looking for a new guitar and you have'nt tried the taylor 714ce I would strongly recommend it.

What a Guitar

I purchased my 714CE for my 50th birthday, I am now 56...I had been eyeing Taylors for some time, but it was not until I played a 714 at a friends house, that I knew this was the guitar. I have been playing in Church since 1980, and with my purchase of the 714CE I am praising, playing, and having a lot of fun...what an easy guitar to play. I do worry about himidity, or lack of it at times in Kansas..I would highly recommend this guitar to any one who plays...

Too Much

I owned this guitar for a year. when i first got it it was great. the sound was very unique sounding. Very piano-like when chords were strummed and very rich and sparkly when finger-picked. i really liked the sound at first. then after a while the sound became too much for me. Its like getting a large of something sweet. the first bite is good then halfway through it it gets to be too much. Another thing i found hard to do was bond with the guitar. i felt as if i wanted to preserve it rather than play it. The guitar is built solidly and built to last a lifetime don't get me wrong, but if you can't bond with a guitar then its useless. i traded it in for a gibson j-45 and have been alot happier since. now i have a guitar that wants to be played.
