A Western red cedar top brings extra warmth and responsiveness to the popular mahogany Taylor Grand Auditorium Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar. This Taylor guitar is a perennial favorite among fingerstylists and singer-songwriters alike. Less dense than a spruce top, cedar's warmer, more blossoming sound resonates with smooth overtones. Coupled with mahogany, it responds well to the subtle nuances of your playing. The abalone rosette and rosewood binding nicely accent the warm color-tone top and body.

The Grand Auditorium design combines the width and depth of a dreadnought with a narrower waist. The 514-CE's sleek design yields a strong treble zing across the tonal spectrum and sharpens the definition of individual notes. This Taylor Grand Auditorium is a strong fingerpicking guitar that also adapts well to medium strumming.

Designed to faithfully reproduce your guitar's native tone, the Expression System utilizes patented Dynamic Sensors to capture top and string vibration like never before. Created in partnership with renowned audio pioneer, Mr. Rupert Neve, the Taylor ES is seamlessly integrated into the design of the guitar from the ground up. Onboard tone controls provide added flavor, or set flat for an uncolored, exceptionally clean amplified sound.

The finish used to create this guitar's lustrous gloss top, back, and sides was developed at Taylor for maximum durability and resistance to cold-checking. The ultraviolet-cured finish on the 514-CE Grand Auditorium Cutaway is also more environmentally friendly than traditional lacquer finishes.

Great for acoustic electric

I own this guitar and it is great as an acoustic electric instrument. It does not hold up acoustically to my Martin OM28V, nor should one expect it to. First of all, it is a cutaway. I have never found a cutaway that sounds as good as a full body high end acoustic. They are different animals. We are comparing apples to oranges. This is not really an acoustic guitar. It is a cutaway, shallow body guitar with a pickup. This reduces the total acoustic sound output. I agree this is a fantastic guitar for what it is, but it won't hold up acoustically to a high end Martin, Collings or Santa Cruz. If you are after an acoustic electric, this is worth looking into. If you are after a fantastic acoustic only guitar that peels paint off the wall, look elsewhere.

I've been around guitars all my life and have played/owned many. My 514ce is by far the most enjoyable playing and sounding instrument, acoustic or electric, and the fretboard is so easy o manage. The feel is smooth, the sound is steady across the strings, and the effects available are always well-received. My choice guitar, and I play it so much that I'll soon need new frets. This is one excellent balance of woods and manufacturing detail/design.

i love this taylor! i love it! i love it! My parents and my bro just gave it a few hours ago. It sounds good, i love it. The only problem is the body is too thin. I'm afraid that if i'm on the stage, my belt will scratch it and push it too hard then it broke. The tension of the strings are too high too. Need to be lower. Overall, this guitar is great ... buy one, you'll never regret it! God Bless!

Simply the best of show

I played some 30 guitars over the course of a week; everything from Martin D28s to a Gibson Hummingbird. I played several of the Taylors including the runner-up: the 814ce. However, when I strummed the first chord on this guitar the shopping was over.....period. Such incredible sound, and the wood is a thing of beauty.

Haven't slept much these last few nights contemplating the expense, but am looking forward to a good night's sleep and sore fingers tomorrow......I mean a guy has to get some sleep right? I figure that's about as good a reason as any to buy it, well and of course it's Thursday too.

I Have been playing for ummmm well lets just say many, many years. I have owned 1919 O21 Martin, 1975 D28, 1973 D18, 1953 Gretch to mention a few. I play mainly Bluegrass. Bluegrass demands Drive and Bass My 514 has it all and is a pleasure to play. It is by far my instrument of choice.
