The Steinberger ZT3-Custom TransTrem Electric Guitar has a flamed maple top for killer looks, and a transposing tremolo system to make instant tuning changes on stage. You can transpose up or down a whole step, in half step increments, to give you five different on-the-spot tunings. Add to this Steinberger's brilliant design features such as the tune-it-once direct-drive double-ball bridge and graphite-reinforced neck with ultrafast phenolic fingerboard and you've got a truly advanced and infinitely playable electric guitar.

The ZT3 Custom guitar has USA-made humbuckers that offer volume, tone and individual coiltapping on both pickups so you can choose a variety of thick humbucker and bright, bell-like tone combinations.

Improved intonation from a zero fret. Unique Steinberger headpiece improves balance, ease of tuning, and tuning stability while the ZT3-Custom's patented Direct-Drive double-ball bridge lets you change strings in seconds then tune up once and not have to tune again until you change strings.

This Axe is a singing machine! It plays wonderfully and stays in tune for months. The fingerboard is as smooth as silk and plays extremely fast with harmonics on every fret! The push pulls take it to another level and plays clean. Notes SING and the trem is in a league of it's own! I love the tuning options and can play in different tunings all in one song. GREAT JPB NED!

Transtrem setup?
Posted by PhenolFretter from Chicago on Jun 30, 2009

So I was at the Gibson store in Nashville and the tech there didn't know how to set up the Transtrem! He showed me what it's supposed to do but gave up on trying to set it up as he couldn't figure out what to do.

The transtrem is a radical concept - basically it gives you back the two frets you lose if you get a Steinberger Transcale but without a rolling capo. It also has coil splitting but no Piezo bridge unlike the Transcale.

So if you are a Fender Rock/Blues player, you'll likely love the ability to toggle the tuning 2 steps up or down in half step increments per toggle of the tremolo as well as hold tuning despite using the tremolo or heavy bending.

I am a bit concerned about the durabiity of the Transtrem bridge as well, given its mechanical toggle to move tunings.

The other concern is regarding altered tuning playability: If you play in DADGAD or open chords, the Transtrem will move the same tuning up or down but its not nearly what a Gibson Robot can do, which is to give you the ability to move to an altered tuning and tune the strings using pitch detection to control the tuner motors.

Cool looking guitar though!

Best Guitar I Ever Owned

I am a Fender fan, I have a tele & a Strat, I thought I would never play anything else but I play the ZT3 almost all the time now. When the pickups are in the single coil position it sounds just like my tele for country music, then go to dual coil & it's great for rock music. The tremelo is unbelievable, I've heard about people not being able to get it to work right but if you follow instructions in the owners manuel it'll work great, the manuel says it will be + or - 5, but mine is right on. I play several types of music & this guitar is great for all of them.
