I bought a seafoam green Jagmaster at a local used guitar store. I was looking for a second guitar to practice with on break at work, since I have only been playing a few years and need every chance I get. I was looking for a strat and ended up with this, which has become the one I prefer to use. It is a 1997 Vista series, Japanese - made, and I learned later they are collectible. Its short scale works great for me and I love the look (except, that is, for the tortoiseshell pickguard which I intend to replace).

Pickups are adequate from my perspective as a beginner. Tuners seem to work fine but may not perform as well as a high end set. I have had no problem with the trem. It sounds great - especially on my instructor's Twin Reverb.

Bottom line is this a great guitar for a modest price, although I can't speak to the later Chinese made versions or those made with a regular scale.

Guitar has much swagger, but the pickups are horrible. buzz is uncontrollable. When I got mine the bridge pickup was rattling and hanging loose. Very disappointing. Usually a great experience with musiciansfriend.

I really want this guitar!I saw the guitar on this website and I loved the look of it.I read alot of reviews and it sounds like a great buy!!Hopefully I can come up with the money to buy one this july!!

Great guitar for a great price! be warned though the guitars tremelo is trash and so are the tuners but nothing that cant be replaced. Also new pick ups are suggested. Poor Sonic youth fans beware as the strat style bridge makes alternative tunings almost impossible.

The Squier by Fender Jagmaster Electric Guitar is one of the best possible purchases a musician could make. I have over 30 years of playing and gigging experience and have owned countless high end guitars. This is the best overall value I have found in any guitar period. I would like to preface this discussion with a thought to all of the frustrated musicians searching for “that illusive magical tone”. Please spend your money on high quality simple tube amp as opposed to spending thousands on high end guitars. And learn some basic guitar set up and maintenance techniques. Anyway, back to the main point. The 24 inch scale on this guitar lends itself to accurate intonation once set up properly. The instrument should be set up with 10’s as opposed to 9’s. The beauty of this instrument is that in its stock configuration it is very musical and aesthetically pleasing. The fun part is in the fact that you could buy several of these things for the price of an American made Tele or Strat and modify them infinitesimally. The guitar will cover most Genres of music very well. The wood, workmanship, and tone are all top notch. The QC processes in the Chinese musical instrument factories is excellent. My favorite simple mod is to replace the stock pick up with P-90s that are encased in a Hum bucker housing. One of the Major Pickup manufactures offers this model. Another fun mod is a set of Seymour Duncan P-Rails. One must understand a couple of issues about guitars made overseas: you are dealing with different climatologically conditions and wood. There will be deviations in neck bowing and fret shrinkage, this is why I mentioned learning some basic maintenance and set up techniques. I have bought countless guitars that people thought were garbage, when all it took was a new set of strings, a truss rod adjustment and some cleaning to have a stellar instrument.
