How can they make these beautiful high qulaity guitars for such a low price. This outstanding guitar is for all purposes very very close to a Martin D-28. Solid Rosewood back and sides and solid spruce top. The neck is pure and with superb fret work. No buzz or fret out. I have owned Martins for many years and I think they better keep their eye on Silver Creek. This is a great deal on a beautiful solid wood guitar.

A friend of mine told me about a guitar his brother had purchased (Silver Creek D-170 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar)and how amazed he was at the quality and equally blown away by the price. I had my husband look at it on the internet and he said for this price we could give it a try. When it arrived, my husband, who is also a muscian (and owner of several Martin guitars)was speechless. It sounded great right out of the box. He took it to have a friend who builds guitars for an assessment. He was amazed as well. The best part was seeing my sons face! (his guitar had recently been stolen). We put it in my husbands Martin case (tied the guitar with a bow) and left it in the living room knowing he'd pick it up to play. When he opened it he didn't see the bow and actually thought he had his dad's Martin. Not until he got it completely out of the case did he see the bow. He couldn't believe it! He went over and over it and kept repeating "I can't believe it. You guys must have paid a bunch for this" guitar. The BEST gift I've ever bought!

I have owned this for a few months now, and I am really pleased with this instrument. I did have to adjust the saddle height. Otherwise, it is perfect.

I really took time to inspect inside the body for issues, none found. Externally the finish is really nice. I did change the strings to DR Acoustic Lights, which as worked well.

I also really like the neck although if you play with a capo you might want to consider purchasing a Page brand capo, the v-contour on the neck doesn't work well with my Planet Waves Stienberger Capo or my Bird of Paradise Capo. The design of the Page style capo seems to eleviate the problem.

Let's just get this of the way - it's not a high-end Martin or Taylor. If it were, it would get 5's. I'm tough on my reviews, and I'm sorry but it's just not *that* good.

Rather, the SC D-170 a reasonably well-crafted rosewood dread with a spruce top at an unbelievably low price (especially with rebate). Features are as advertised. Tone is deep like any dread; the guitar comes with light-ish strings - the caliper says .012-.056. I may try lighter strings to brighten the tone a bit. Tone is lively - ringing for 15-20 seconds.

I immediately tightened the truss to lower the action to my liking. It's smooth and fast. The frets have no burrs, which can quickly become a medical problem on really cheap guitars. Intonation is good, if you like to play high on the neck. The neck is a low-V, which is different that what I usually play. Not a problem, just different.

The inlaid dots and artwork appear to be mother-of-pearl. The headstock artwork is really quite beautiful; the pictures don't do it justice.

One minor quibble - the strings are not "locked in" like factory Martins are. The b and e are already slipping out. I may be giving it MSP4100s sooner than I thought.

Overall, an excellent "value" guitar for the beginning or intermediate player.

I have had the D-170 for around a week, and I am very happy with it. I do not think that there is a guitar with several hundred dollars that will touch it. The Silver Creek is very comporable to the Guild gad's and the Blueridges. Everything about the guitar reminds me of the D-28 it's sound is even comporable, but dont get me wrong I would rather have had the D-28 just not by thousands more. If you are on a budget and have been considering the other chineese made guitars (which all seem pretty good to me) The Silver Creek is the cheapest solid wood guitar I have seen, but it does not look or feel cheap playing. Dont forget the case from Silver Creek it's incrediably nice for the price. Bottom line this guitar should cost way way more pick it up before the price goes up.
