Really good pedal.

I bought this pedal to drive the front end of my 100w tube amp because it has always sounded too dry to me and I am hoping to get a more reactive tone. I use it in the beginning of my chain right after my tuner and right before my ISP decimator. The gain is set at about 9 o'clock and I keep the pedal on all the time. The effect this has is that is makes the clean channel of my amp louder and more touch sensitive while the overdrive channel is juicier. My amp is high gain so I set the OD gain at about three and put the volume up which results in a really heavy yet clean sounding distortion. For lead boosts I have on-board gain switches installed on my guitars. This pedal is extremely transparent and since I have it plugged into my BBE Supa Charger, there is no 60 cycle hum at all. My ISP takes care of any noise from my pickups although if I'm standing on top of my amp I'll get a little feedback. The resonance switch is very subtle and has a greater effect on single coil pups. Humbuckers are warmed up slightly but its not a dramatic effect.

I have not tried too many boosters, but this pedal is EXTREMELY transparent. I Use it in the effects loop to boost the signal from my preamp to the power tubes, and it sounds awesome. Same amount of gain, same tone exactly, but louder. Works great for solos. However, I HATE the input/output placements. Hard to stuff on a pedal board. The only other problem I have is the levels. 6db is BARELY too much, in my opinion, anyway. I might check out the MXR boost, which starts at 0db. Besides that, this pedal is perfect, and unbeatable for the price.

I bought this pedal to make my passive pickups seem active and it does a great job, I'm running it through my effects loop as the first pedal on my chain and it transparently boosts my tone with great clarity.

Awesome pedal for bassists

Awesome Pedal!!! I'd been searching for a pedal or another pre amp to round out my setup (AM Fender Jazz with Seymour Duncan quarter pound pickups in the bridge and neck, through a fender TBP-1, a Peavey CS 1200 power amp, and an Ampeg 6x10) and this did the trick and then some. As amazing as the Fender pre amp is, it lacks in some areas most noticeably the the lack of a gain control to fatten up the clean tone (I know there is a gain channel but it is more like and overdrive channel than anything else). So long story short I stumbled upon the pickup booster. I am VERY hard to please when it comes to tone, but this may be the last adjustment I ever make. It is everything I could have hoped for. To start, with the pickup resonance switch set at 0 (neutral) the pedal is basically a boost pedal, that helps to round out your tone. It doesn't mask your tone but it improves it tremendously. Where the pedal really shines though, is when you start playing with the Pick up resonance switch to the right of the gain knob. 2 creates a darker warmer tone great for people who like that thick motown bass, or punk/hardcore guys like myself who like their bass to be deep but distinguishable. 1 is brighter, and is perfect for guys who love the sound of nice natural sounding basses. Perfect for jazz and country/folk. All in all this is one of the greatest pedals I'v e ever used, Seymour had done it again!

I use it as a volume booster for soloing, if you put it in front of the amp it´ll do nothing but add a little more gain, but if you use it in the loop you´ll get a volume boost leaving your tone intact.

The only problem (for me) is that the knob goes from 6db to 25db, I use it on the minimum 6db, but still I feel it is a little way too much of a boost for soloing, One needs around 3-4db
