Excellent tone for the price

I've owned this model for almost 7 years and it has withstood lots of abuse. It has better tone and sustain than any other inexpensive guitar out there from *any* brand, and its tone alone is comparable to brands and models over 2x its cost. It has above-average action and playability. Despite it being cedar topped it sounds "bright enough" to me while playing fingerstyle or single note, but you'll have to play a tad harder to sound as bright as a spruce top even if you're using the preamp. The L.R. Baggs is decent (but a tad brittle sounding), but the guitar sounds best when miked and strummed. As a final note, remember to change its 9v battery when you change the strings as it is not socketed like so many other acoustic-electrics and you must go through in the sound hole. That is the reason I dinged it a 1/2 star.

My first guitar

This was the 1st guitar that I learned to play. Person after person comment me on how pretty and great my guitar sounds. For the money I don't believe ther is anything better. Alvarez is good too but the seagull has a full sound and when it is plugged in sounds awesome. I wouldn't trade my gull for any other guitar.

Don't be fooled...this is really an absolutely GREAT acoustic-electric guitar. Yes, it's somewhat plain-looking, but so are a lot Martin's and Taylor's costing 2-3 x's more. I purchased the Coastline Slimmer Neck version with a Cutaway body style. All I can tell you is WOW!

Amazing low string action with virtually no fret buzz, and excellent tone - both unplugged and plugged. The LR Baggs sound system has one of the most accurate built-in tuners I've ever used. The guitar really stays in tune faithfully, too.

The solid Spruce top, cherry sides/back, silver leaf neck with rosewood fretboard are perfectly fitted and finished. Craftsmanship, quality, and overall value are superb. What more could anyone ask for in a guitar at this price? Don't believe what one reviewer says about it "possibly" not standing up to heavy strumming. Seagulls are extremely durable and weill-engineered. Check out their site and read about their construction. Trust your ears and your pocketbook on this phenomenal guitar. You won't regret it.

Highly Recommed This Box

I was not terribly excited at first as the action was high and it was visibly obvious that a truss rod adjustment was necessary. After coming back from my local guitar shop, the guitar really shines! I love the wide neck as I play mostly finger style. Nice fretwork too. And the tone, volume, and sustain are first rate. Tuners seem a bit smallish and cheap, but no problems with tuning. Personally, the aesthetics don't do that much for me. I also play a Gibson J45 and a Martin 0028 and although these guitars are at the next level in terms of materials and appearance, the S6 is soundly in the same class in terms of playability and tone. I really love it!

The guitar plays effortlessly and the tone is amazing. The action is low and it sounds good through an amplifier. It feels good in your hands and it stays in tune too.
