The Seagull Maritime Cedar Gloss Dreadnought is an acoustic guitar made with a mahogany back and sides. The Maritime guitar's mahogany back and sides give it a more mellow sound than other tone woods. Maritime series Seagull guitars feature a unique lamination of mahogany on each side of a center layer of wild cherry. This results in a sound with slightly more highs than a typical mahogany guitar.

In addition to the new compound-curve bracing system, the Maritime Cedar Gloss Guitar features a custom polished finish. The finish is about the same thickness as the Seagull semi-gloss treatment but buffed to a high luster. The Maritime guitar has the added responsiveness provided by an extra light finish along with the great looks of high gloss

Good Front Porch Picker

This was the first guitar I owned and it really did draw me into becoming a more dedicated player, as it plays smoothly, and its relative ease of use (larger nut= wider string spacing and nice low action)keeps it in your hands, rather than throwing it down in frustration. It has excellant tone for its reasonable price, with the treble strings sounding clear and the bass strings not overwhelming. Its light finish allows the guitar to sing, but be wary that it will scratch and dent easily. However, at this price you wont be too upset, plus they can give this no frills guitar a certain aesthetic appeal. While it can be played in any style, it best suits a fingerpicker, with its wide nut (you are going to need long fingers to wrap your thumb around its chunky neck), cause heavy strumming will cause a buzz, especially in the E string. However, nobody is going to expect you to play "Anarchy in the UK" or do a Pete Townsend windmill thing on this guitar, so play some John Hurt, Skip James, or Chet Atkins while doodling on the porch or even the occasional mushy ballad. It won't disappoint.

Fantastically Mellow

This guitar is just great, especially for the price. I've had mine for two months now. Slap some Elixirs on this baby and she sings beautifully. The intonation on my 6th string is a bit sharp, but it's nothing that can't be fixed. The cedar top really does help the notes resonate, especially when fingerpicking, to produce a nice, mellow tone. This guitar is less bright than usual, but for people who like that bassy, mellow tone this guitar is great.
