A little amp that's bigger than its britches. |
Meet the Roland Micro Cube guitar amp - small, loud, proud, and in true stereo. This little amplifier overachieves with serious bombast in a small body with a stereo power amp and four redesigned custom speakers.
Speaker Tech
The cutting-edge speakers used in the Micro Cube RX are custom designed and built specially for Micro Cube amps.
Stereo Power Amps
With two specially made power amps and four speakers contained in each, the RX amp produces an immersive, stereo sound. The true stereo engine also allows bass tones that defy the size of the cabinet.
Battery Drive
The Roland Micro Cube Rx amp can run on battery or AC power (AC adaptor included).
COSM Amps & Digital Effects
Guitarists and bassists have come to rely on Roland and BOSS for the best effects in the world. The Micro Cube Rx amplifier benefits from this world-leading technology, offering eight built-in COSM amps, six digital effects, three band EQ, and a chromatic tuner.
Immersive Stereo FX
The Micro Cube Rxs' onboard stereo effects benefit from Roland's decades of industry-leading R&D. Experience the amazing spatial depth and lush sound of the stereo Chorus and Reverb.
Like Roland's popular Jazz Chorus amps, the Micro Cube RXs' chorus effect takes advantage of the dual-speaker configuration to deliver the widest and most spacious chorus possible.
Rhythm Guide
The metronome is a music-student's best friend, but that numbing "clank, clank, clank" can get irksome. That's where the Micro Cube Rx's Rhythm Guide comes in handy. It's like having a drummer inside your amp. Choose from an assortment of groovin' patterns to practice with. Improve your timing while having a more enjoyable musical experience, or just have fun jamming along to the beats.
Outputs
The Phones/Recording output serves two purposes: Plug in a set of headphones and enjoy private practice with lush, stereo sound, or plug directly into a stereo mixer or recording device for accurate signal transfer directly from the Micro Cube Rx.
Inputs
The Roland Micro Cube Rx amp's line input lets you plug in a guitar, bass, or microphone. In addition, the stereo AUX input accepts input from an iPod, a CD player, or musical instrument so you can blend its signal with your own.

I have owned both the Micro Cube and the RX. If you have the extra money, I say definitely go with the RX. It has a very nice tone considering how tiny the speakers are, and the stereo sound (particularly w/ the stereo chorus) is quite noticeable compared to the smaller mono version. I noticed a lot of negativity in the reviews, so I thought I'd chime in and stick up for it. No it does not get as loud as a 50w combo...it's a tiny portable amp, but the clean sounds come through much nicer and warmer than the origional Micro Cube. On the other hand, you can turn the gain to 10 and the volume halfway and seriously anger people on the rfier setting. Compared to any other battery powered amps, it is really a nice piece of equipment and has way more power than you need if playing by yourself for practice or a small audience. I had the RX origionally, but could never turn the volume more than 1/4 up without bothering other tenants in my building, so I traded it for the Micro Cube...seemed like a waste of money since I didn't need that much volume. You are definitely getting what you pay for with this amp especially considering it uses AA's for power. Being able to whip out the electric while in the woods / on maint st. / in your car etc. is completely awesome when it's not a crappy mini stack.

Buy this and be frustrated

I bought this amp from Musician's Friend to use as a portable amp so I can jam at the park or in the woods since my old Fender amp is not battery operated, duh, and also it is much larger and heavier. For the money, it is not too awful bad I suppose. My main beef is that this thing has never worked right from day one and what do you do when you order off of the net? The effects are either all the way up, or off, no variation. The worst part is that it keeps wanting to kick in to an echo sound and I have to turn the mid knob all the way up and then move it back slow and as long as I don't turn the mid too far down it will stop the echo (who knows how the mid tone knob effects the echo). In the middle of jamming a song however, it makes for a real pain in the arss, not to mention sometimes I want mid only at 2 or 3, which would kick in the echo. If they only had some of the bugs worked out BEFORE it hit the market it might have actually been worth the money. This will be the last Roland anything that I ever buy. God Bless and play well.

I love this amp! It's tough as nails, runs on 6 AA batteries if you want, has a rhythm guide plus plenty of volume for something that's portable. You won't be playing Madison Square Garden with this but for jamming around the house, at your lunch break or partying with your buddies, you can't beat it. Thank You Roland! I also have the original micro cube too. I'll be giving that one to my son as soon as he starts/wants to play. Rock On!

BIG PROBLEM

This amp is supposed to be the "better micro cube" But it's not, The four tiny speakers are not capible of working together to create a good, rounded sound, it sounds like each one is fighting the others, each with a diffrent sound. Do not buy this amp. Get yourself a Roland Cube 20x or 30x (I have the 30x) The 30x is perfect in almost everyway possible. I play A gibson les paul standerd and this amp makes it sound like a fake.

Waste of Money

It seems to be well constructed. I play a Fender Strat, and an Ovation Balladeer through this amp. I do get some volume, perhaps enough for an apartment or bedroom. I cannot get any range from the built in effects, they are either off or on, and other than a little reverb, the rest of the effects sound terrible. I can only get two speeds from the Rythym machine, too slow, and too fast. I am extremely dissappointed with this purchase. I dont reccomend this to anyone, including a beginner. Buy anything else please.
