I've owned this amp a little over 3 years now. Could you gig with it? Maybe...but practice will never be more fun! As a combo amp your not going to find anything better. Fender, Vox, Marshall, Peavey, & Mesa amp models are all there, and maybe not exact, you will def be in the ballpark. Onboard tuner, and throw in some effects which are actually pretty darn good and what else could you ask for in a combo practice amp? Compared to others in the same category this blows them away, I didn't plan on even looking at Roland when I walked in but after playing for days on similar amps this was hands down the best practice combo. No regrets and this is built like a tank!!! If your a bedroom player, or a gigging musicians, these are great to have around the house!!!

This is a great amp for practice because you have so many options on one amp. It is also inexpensive so, it's a good thing. But, it is not a good amp if you want the true sound of any of the amps that it immitates. It is very fun to play, but will not give you the tone or the power of a good tube amp.

best practice amp

Been using the 30X for a couple years now. It leaves almost nothing to be desired. Solid construction, wide range of sounds, portable yet loud. I play metal and need an articulate yet heavy sound; used the R-Fire setting for a long time, but the bottom end was mushy and it sounded too scooped. Then I discovered the DynaAmp setting, which I once thought was just a gimmick, but turns out it's perfect for metal. Gain at 2 o'clock, bass at 9, mids at 11, treble at 2. The DynaAmp does not distort palm mute attacks as much as open strums, meaning the sound is chunkier with greater dynamics and better attack, no more mushy bottom. Only downside is that a 10" speaker for recording heavy rhythm is not as full sounding as a 12" speaker; in the end I'm using the recording-out to go direct, with band-pass filter to simulate a cab; it's like using a POD. Overall though I'm happy with this amp; next step up would be a tube head and 1 or 4x12 cab. For practice, you can't beat this.

I have owned this amp since 2004 and have to say it's been pretty good to me.First off I would like to say that I changed the speaker to a 8ohm 10"patriot that I bought from a web site called "parts express",That being said it changed everything. Now this amp is a real solid performer,I use it in my home studio, with all the tone modeling capabilities it is very handy.I also play my bass through the clean channel for my recordings.
