Fizzy and buzzy sound is as solid state as you can get — Metalheads only!
The Rocktron Silver Dragon Tube Distortion Pedal combines the best of both worlds-tube and analog solid-state distortion! This dual-headed beast can deliver whatever distortion flavor you're wanting. For that tube sound you love, the Silver Dragon has a 12AX7. The Awaken switch rouses the tube for duty while Fire handles the initial distortion drive level of the 12AX7. When you kick in the solid-state side, called Slayer, you combine the tube distortion with solid state distortion to give you tons of gain with tight, punchy distortion, completely tweakable to your liking.
The Intensity control changes the character, sustain, and attack properties that together enhance articulation. The Breath control shapes the symmetry of the solid-state distortion affecting the feel of the distortion. Global controls include Shriek for handling treble frequencies, Roar for low-end control, and an output level control. Includes 13V AC adapter.

When I got this for my 15th birthday, I was surprised at how it sounded. I have used it non-stop in my guitar rig, and with good reasons. One, I have a Fender Princeton Chorus amplifier, an Ibanez GAX70, and a re-issue DanElectro DanoBlaster that I named "Dani". The amplifier is a solid-state amp, mind you, and the standard distortion on it is nice and creamy an' all, but I wanted more out of it. I used to use my brother's Danelectro FAB "Metal" pedal with it, and it used to be too harsh. Now, the Silver Dragon bridges the gap between the two. It's got the right amount of crunch to it, and I love it. I happen to have it set up enough that, to me, it gets EXACTLY James Hetfield's tone with the Ibanez, even though he uses Marshall amps. This thing will transform your amp, given the right EQ settings. It will turn the smoothest, tamest amp out there into a fire-breathing BEAST, all thanks to the Rocktron Silver Dragon. Also, I have a guitar project in the works with a basswood Squier HM Strat from the '80s, a Bill Lawrence L-500XL humbucker pickup, a bolt-on 24-fret neck, and a Floyd... I can't imagine how crunchy this thing would sound once I get it done...

This pedal sounds great. The tube overdrives nicely and responds well to your pick hand. The solid state side gets the overdrive to saturate without sounding harsh. You can crank all the knobs for an extremely heavy, high gain sound and still have really heavy, tight bottom end. IMO this pedal is great for rock and blues. The tube side with the gain a bit lower sounds very vintage. You can engage the solid state side for your solos to make them stand out, and yeah they will cut right through. I love this pedal. It kinda is making me sell some other gear that I no longer need.

Ok so i have to say this is a great pedal for the price, i bought it used for half the price. Anyway i have played this with my Paul Reed Smith SE model (which is a very balanced guitar for rock/metal) through two different amps that i have played it through. The first one is a Line 6 Spider 15 watt. It is solid state and has a decent clean. Anway the Silver Dragon was able to decently increase the quality in tone and distorion. Pinch harmonics are massively easier to do with this pedal when put through a solid state amp. The silver dragon will add a tube tone to any solid state, however it is not that signifigant and I suggest that you either buy a solid state distortion pedal, or save up and get a twin tube pedal.
Putting this through my Bugera 55 watt tube is a whole different world. The distortion is very clear and tone is awesome, and that is without the slayer setting turned on. Turn slayer on and you have an obsene amount of distortion.
This pedal will also make the controls on your guitar stand out far more
The only bad things about this pedal is mine have a bit of extra noise that goes back through. Far more noticable with solid state amps.
All in all this pedal is for tube amps ONLY. It is built for metal, but without being paired with other tubes it won't get that high of distortion.

I used to have a few different types of distortion pedals that I use, this one eliminated the need for all of them. It has a rich overdrive and a great crunch on the distortion and its easy to adjust to your sound (I used different color markers to mark the settings for my different styles of music I play).
The tube is alse extremly well place so you can replace it with ease. I've put a different tube in to achieve a better overdrive, but it wasn't necessary. I just didn't think it had enough so I swapped it out. Which also makes this convienent because if you're not happy you can just change the tube to your liking
