It dishes out a superb blend of light overdrives that enhance the sound of your amp without changing it. A unique "Pre-Bass" control eliminates problems with too much fuzzy bass, or the opposite problem of being a weak, thin-sounding overdrive. Drive and level controls offer further shaping options. It's like having an entire arsenal of overdrive pedals in just one box. Add an entirely new dimension to your amp with a maximum 30dB of gain without overprocessing.

I bought this at the same time as a Palomino 30w 2x12 amp and an Epi Wilshire - the white one. They all sound good together. It's not a bunch of pedals in one - it is easy to find a spot that sounds good, and it works with the amp's exisiting overdrive. It is also solidly built.

Playing Epi Les Pauls thru a Marshall JTM30 ( all tube ) amp. The Marshall's gain is very old school / scratchy. Great Black Crowes / Stones sound, but NOT a heavy metal amp ; very Plexi sounding. I wanted an overdrive pedal to give me a "Randy Rhodes" sound. I use it WITH my amp gain - ( set on 10 o'clock ), and the pedal controls - left to right - 12 0'clock , 10 o'clock , 12 o'clock. I was trying to make this 2 channel amp into 3 channels ; which I call clean , Crowes , & Rhodes. This pedal NAILED it ! I LOOOVE that it's crisp and doesn't make your tube amp sound like one of those fake modelling amps. The 'pre-bass' is nice. Does what they say. This pedal has a GREAT overdrive and enhances your sound without making it sound digital. Perfect for us 'old-schoolers' , 70's , early 80's stuff. I hope by listing my equipment, it helps to describe the sound. This pedal is a STEAL at this price. So glad I tried it.

Sounds like a tweed to me

I bought this pedal to give me some kind of sweet spot tone when playing low volume gigs (amp on 1-2, drummer playing brushes all night). I've also used it to get tweed type tones when using a blackface style amp. At it's lower settings, this pedal does both pretty well. The thing I dislike about most OD's and distortion pedals is that they compress everything into the midrage frequencies. The pre-bass control works very well at filling out the tone. The pedal also lets the sound of your guitar come through, it's somewhat touch sensitive and cleans up decently (like a tweed amp) when the guitar volume is rolled down. I would compare this pedal to the Snarling Dogs Tweed E Dog, except the AG has more range into woman tone land when the drive is turned up.

Blues at its best

After hearing the tone of my sons Rocktron Zombie I thought I give the Austin Gold a try. Not wanting to spend a lot of money on an overdrive pedal this one fit the bill. After plugging in to my Crate VC-30 tube amp, I was very impressed with the blusey, classic rock type tones capable with this pedal. My home built kit SRV tribute sounds amazing. The Texas Specials really honk through this pedal. And my Jay Turser 335 style semi hollowbody screams classic rock. Great tone, total control, and an affordable price tag add up to one great pedal.

Most under-rated overdrive EVER

I've been thru a ton of pricey pedals: Tube Screamers, MXR Booster, Liquid Sunshine, Zakk Wylde OD... this pedal does exactly what I want. Increase sustain and drive in front of an already overdriven amp WITHOUT screwing with your tone!

The drive is actually subtle, it's the other two controls that make the tone... especially the pre-bass setting. Genius!

Don't spend more, spend smart. This thing is great and will earn its respect over time.
