Use it direct

Even the original blew used through a guitar amplifier. For direct recording, a different story. The clean setting was a bit thin, but the distortion settings were excellent, with chorus.

Guitar Ace

Just purchased the Guitar Ace. Bottom line: Very poor peace of equipment. Heres why: Very low volume, no chorus or reverb. Now, I knew there were no effects which is "ok" but the volume, especially for the distortion, is a real big negative here, when you're trying to play to a CD. The old Rockman X100 is still the best and I'm waiting to here back from the company, after complaining to them about the Guitar Ace. We'll see if there are plans to revamp this thing.

OK, this unit is pretty good. I received this as a gift but also have the original Rockman from the 80's. I think the original is much better if you can ever find a used one since it has more options. One thing I have noticed from both models is it sounds much better when you run the output cable through the 1/8 inch headphone jack instead of the 1/4 inch instrument out into your Amp. The sound is much cleaner. I use a Fender stage 185 for my main amp with a Dean Markley Overlord and with this Rockman it sounds just like the classic Boston sound.

This Dunlop version has really nothing to do with the originals from the 80s. It's ok for practice, but it's not the real thing, find an original if you want that ''Bostone''. I returned mine to the store after one day. They should not used that name for a product that can't match the original.

I bought the guitar ace for practice purposes and it is quite good. I replaced the headphones with a set that I already owned which enhanced the product's performance. There is a little bit of noise and the distortion selection does not mimick the Boston sound any longer but the product is a great little practice amp!
