This half stack includes the Randall RX Series RX120RH 120W Guitar Amp Head and the Randall RX412 Speaker Cabinet. Randall's goal was to develop a more affordable guitar amp with the tone of much larger combo amps and stacks. The RX tone circuits deliver a modern Randall tone with plenty of tight lows and enough top-end sizzle to satisfy any metal guitarist.

The RX412 speaker cabinet delivers a sound that rivals the tone and power of much larger, more expensive boxes thanks to its 4 - 12" Jaguar speakers.

AWESOME AMP!!!!

I play Metal with a group and i use the head and a 2x12 cab loaded with Texas Heats. The Clean channel sounds wonderful no early break up, nice highs and almost Fender-ish bass, great for anything. The OD channel is wonderful plenty of drive, good tone you can play any kind of music with it. When you do turn the OD down the amp keeps its tone. But the amp likes to chug just like me, its definitely voiced for metal. I play the head and cab at my church and it does wonderful. I use the reverb a lot at church and its not Fender reverb but it sounds great anyway. All of the eq knobs effect the tone a lot its easy to dial in great sounds and i mean Sounds, not just a metal tone or a country tone it does it all.

RANDALL = Best Solid State Amplifier. Period.

I bought the Randall RX120D half stack back in March 2008, and it has been through a lot.

It's the SAME EXACT THING as the RX120RH, but the RX120D has 16 built in digital effects ranging from 9 different kinds of reverb, chorus, delay, phaser, tremolo, etc.

After 2 years, multiple falls, recording a 6-song demo, and playing countless shows with my band, this amplifier is still going like it was when I first plugged it in.

First, I'll start with the sound, which is great.

There are 2 channels (Clean & Distortion).

The Distortion Channel is very versatile with all of the settings you have at your disposal. I may predominantly play metal, but this amp can put out almost any kind of rock tone or any amount of gain that you want to use to dirty up your guitar tone. The Contour knob will make a HUGE difference in the type of sounds this amp will generate.

The Clean Channel sounds great as well. To me, I think that tweaking the clean channel on this amp takes a little more time to figure out because balancing volume between Distortion and Clean can sometimes be a pain.

I bought this amp with a 4x12 Straight Cabinet (the one in the picture), and it has a phenomenal amount of low end. At practice or a gig, I'll palm mute and it'll shake the ground!! Sounds good when recorded in a studio. Also comes with Wheels, making it easy to move around. The handles aren't the most comfy when you're carrying it, but it's not that big of a deal.

The amp I got came with a foot switch, and this is the only thing that kept me from giving the amp a perfect score. The foot switch is durable and works great for switching between channels and turning the effects channel on and off, but I wish there was something you could do about changing the actual effects with the foot switch. You can turn them on/off with the foot switch, but you must change effects by turning the knob on the amp. An unfortunate inconvenience if you want to diversify your effects when you play live (unless you have somebody turning the knob for you) or just sitting at home jamming.

If you own the RX120RH, disregard the previous paragraph.

Now, the last part of my review, the amp's reliability. I'll give the amp a 1230/10 in that department. This amp has fallen over a few times due to a couple bad windy days here, and that hasn't stopped the Randall RX120D. It is built like a tank, and the same goes for the cabinet as well. I've given this half stack quite a beating over the past 2 years, and it returns the favor every time I play it.

My other guitar player uses a Peavey 6505+ (awesome tube amp, by the way), and the RX120D holds its own in the midst of the music. A very powerful amp indeed.

2 years, 0 issues with this amp. Buy it.

This is easily THE BEST SOLID STATE AMP I've ever played.

RANDALL = BEST SOLID STATE AMP. Period.

Gut Puncher!

I tried out alot of amps before buying the RX120RH and RX412 half stack. Kustom Quad, Roland Cube, Ibanez Tbx just to name a few. I Play an Ibanez UV777 guitar, along with my old Digitech RP200, and an Ibanez tube king pedal. I don't buy amps for the effects since I have plenty of pedals, even though playing straight into the amp raw sounds excellent. It's loud, extremely high in gain, has a type of chug that punches you in the gut and makes you tingle. The quality of the sound stays solid no matter how high you crank this beast up. The clean channel is sweet sounding. Nothing about this amp seems cheap as it is well made. Only thing that could be any better is Celestion speakers, but the Jags seem to crank just as well. I especially like the contour control, it can be adjusted between a dark, deep chug to a bright one. If your on a budget like me, and want a quality half stack that won't bust your bank account, I highly encourage you to try it out.

A buddy of mine brought this over a few days ago to let me mess around on it. Let me tell you one thing... if your going to play heavy metal get a overdrive petal to hook up to this thing. We are using a metal zone pedal (from Boss) and it sounds alright. The amp is loud and I have found no problems with it other than the tone. This amp is a great entry level half stack.
