Left-facing Right-facing Powersupply

The Radial Tonebone Hot British Tube Drive Effects Pedal is tube overdrive distortion at its best! It's the perfect choice for huge, chunky rhythm; fat, scooped tones; and soaring, screaming solos. You get that natural, even harmonic distortion only a tube can provide - from the sound of a 4x12 double stack to the power-chord mayhem of metal thrashing over barbed wire, it's all here.

5 knobs and 3 switches make it easy to sculpt your tone the way you like. Level provides overall output level control to your amp. High and low EQ knobs let you fine-tune the tonal character, while the contour knob works with the Voicing switch to boost or cut the mids. The drive knob adjusts the input level for optimum distortion. For switches, the Top End offers Bright, Flat, and Dark settings to shape the feel and overall tone. Voicing shapes the tonal range to flat, scoop, or extra-fat. Mid Boost gives you a 7dB or 12dB boost to give your solos extra meat to cut through the mix. The heavy-duty footswitch controls a true-bypass circuit and a bright red LED can be seen on any stage. Includes power supply.

Radial Tonebone Hot British Tube Drive Effects Pedal Features:

  • Aggressive, natural tube sound
  • Extremely flexible tone shaping
  • Rugged, high-end build quality
  • Super quiet

Had Technical Problems

Although this pedal sounds great on solid state amps and also has a variety of tone shaping controls, I found that it did not sound very good on any tube amp that I tried it on. Also, within a week the second channel began to have problems. Occasionally it would cut in volume or cut out completely when I switched from channel one to channel two. I ended up exchanging the pedal for store credit. Apparently you can send the pedal to Radial and they will fix it, but I wanted a pedal that sounded good to me on both solid state and tube amps.

The band I am in has been requiring me to have higher gain levels than I have (and higher than I would like to). I run an Eric Johnson strat straight into a Marshall Vintage Modern, and the tone is massive, but not extremely distorted. So, the other guitarist in the band who know runs a four channel tube/SS hybrid amp and now uses no effects let me take this baby home and try it out to see if I liked it.

This thing SCREAMS. Although I am much more of a traditional guy and don't really believe in this super high gain stuff (as far as what I personally play), this thing is awesome. Most distortion pedals I've tried sound thin, cheesy, and harsh. The tube in this thing makes it warm and natural, which rules out the cheesy and harsh, and the EQ allows for an easily beefable sound, which rids of the thinness. This is the holy grail of distortion pedals, in my opinion. I crank my Marshall to get that good overdrive, and use my guitar knob for cleans. Slap this baby on top of that dirty amp, and boom. Huge, harmonic distorted beauty. I may be getting a booster for solos, but for now, this is the only effect pedal I use.

I was hesitant to get a distortion pedal until...

I have always believed that any distortion that I ever needed, I could get from my amp head. I've been using a solid-state amp for 10 years now, not by choice, but by finances, and I decided to break down and get this distortion pedal to get that tube distortion. I was hesitant at first, but I kept hearing about how good this pedal was. Once it came in, I plugged it in and tweaked the settings for about 2 minutes and BAM, the sound that I have failed to get for 10 years came through in just 2 minutes. It is the most amazing sound that I've ever heard. I've heard this pedal called "Marshall in a box", and it is COMPLETELY accurate. I got the exact same sound out of this pedal that I got out of a Marshall Vintage Modern amp that I tried out. The tube distortion possibilities are endless with this pedal. I also plugged it into my Line 6 Tone Port UX1. The amp emulators in there sounded a little fake, but then I ran this pedal through it and the difference was HUGE. There are not enough good thing that I can say about this pedal. If you like a great hard rock tube distortion, then this pedal definately for you. If you like the chunky Dimebag-type sound, then stick with a solid state amp, but for warm hard driving distortion, then this is the PERFECT pedal.

This is the best distortion pedal I've tried. I can set the parameter, and get lot of sound variation, from crunch, to metal, rectified, high gain...I like it so much. If I had lot of money, I'll buy 3 of this pedal, as my distortion pedal. LoL

One thing that I'm little bit disappointed is it doesn't have any boost feature.

I've tried pretty much all the actual tube overdrive/distortion boxes there are. They all give you tube vibe with that special feel you only get from a tubes, but the Hot British is a cut above.

This little red monster actually deals out seriously ballsy, Marshall-esque tone. Sounds great no matter what amp I plug it into. This thing has turned boring, used up rehearsal studio amps into freaking tone volcanos. Its like the front end of a Plexi on steroids.
