Good bedroom amp, nothing more

I baught this amp about three years ago and at first was pretty impressed. Rechargible, light, but still pretty loud for 20W. The clean setting on this amp is good...until about 5 or 6, then there's this really annoying buzzing when low notes are played. Obviously, that made me dislike the amp quite a bit, and it gets worse with pedals in front of it. At low volumes, this thing can get great distortion out of a pedal; the cab is good for recording too just stick the mic in the back and shred. I mainly baught this for a bedroom use, but I think it's time to sell it since tubes are my game now and there's better for the money. If you want a practice amp for blues and don't want to lug around huge cabs and such, get this.

...but it packs more punch and clarity that you could have ever guessed. The clean channel is absolutely wonderfully free of any sort of buzz or hum. It gets even clearer once you unplug the A/C adapter and run it on the lead acids. The Tone is marvelous (the difference is really clear between the closed solo sound, to the open, brighter, more strum-friendly sound). It's volume is what is to be expected of a 20W amp- no more, no less. The squeal (overdrive) is not what you'd like if you prefer grinding, crushing, powerful amounts of distortion (get a distortion pedal), but it is everything that can be desired in a blues style overdrive- sounds more like the volume's being pushed over the edge as opposed to how distorted most overdrive pedals sounds these days. Like I've said, the clean channel is among the clearest and most wonderful I've ever heard. If you think it's too simple for you, get another amp, or buy a ton of pedals. Your choice. Just don't overcharge the batteries longer than 8-10hours. And don't play them till their drained. They are long lasting batteries but only if you treat them right- that's also just common courtesy to your instruments.

I had one of the original pignoses until it crapped out after about 10 years. A cool little amp for the time and very usable for practice. I had higher expectations for the Hog 20, which weren't realized. Other companies are offering more bang for the buck now. The Hog 20 is an adequate practice amp, but I have found that above 6, the volume level produces unpleasant distortion and electronic hum. Not to mention the metal screen over the speaker vibrates annoyingly. The usable distortion is somewhat thin. Some may find this amp perfectly adequate. In fact I've had some fun with it using tele, strat and LP. But there is so much out there in terms of Asian-built low price amps with numerous features, I would try several before buying.

I love this little amp. It is perfect for carrying to school and using during a guitar class. It also has great sound for such a small package. It also is great for putting in back-pack and waking and playing. I couldn't have found a better deal

Good, not great

A great amp for practicing. But, if you add any distortion effects, or boost the volume to 9, the bass notes buzz or just sound ugly. Its lightweirght and battery powered so its great if you are going somewhere or just want to practice, but it has a total lack of features. The tone knob isnt too sensitive, and the "Squeal" pedal does not add a whole lot of distortion. If the pattery gets low, the amp sounds poor, and the battery lasted for about 8 hours. Overall, its an OK practice amp, but I'm sure there are better amps out there.
