The single-channel Windsor Studio amplifier features a footswitchable Boost button that increases the preamp level. Now you have the flexibility of a dual-channel amp plus control over the dynamic response. You also get the rich distortion characteristics of Windsor amp's class-A tube power topology. The Boost function can be used as an overdrive feature for the power section or simply as a volume boost for soloing.
This 15-watt amplifier uses two 12AX7 preamp tubes and one EL34 power-amp tube in a single-ended configuration with no negative feedback. The power section is designed to accommodate 6L6GC, 6550, 6CA7, KT88 and KT66 octal power tubes, as well as variations on those types. Peavey's exclusive Power Sponge™ output attenuator incrementally adjusts the power output of the amplifier while maintaining the distortion characteristics of the power amp at any chosen volume level. Also onboard is a transformer-balanced XLR direct output with a unique microphone simulator that allows players to send the amplifier signal to a recording device or front-of-house mix without the use of a microphone. Additional features on this Peavey amp include true spring reverb, preamp volume, master volume, three-band tone equalization, footswitchable effects loop and a single 12" loudspeaker.

Couldn't Wait Forever...

I love everything about this amp for youtube and the many reviews I've read.

Unfortunately, I couldn't wait forever so I changed my order to a discontinued JSX Mini Colossal which I just love.

I'm sure that the Windsor Studio sounds just as good but the backorder was at least 3 months. I ordered before Thankgiving and now Feb 1st they are still on backorder. I don't know what's taking Peavey so long to build these things, but with a bunch of rush orders I didn't want to take a chance on quality assurance.

I'm very happing with the Mini Colossal which has many of the same features for recording purposes.

I've been using the Windsor for about 10 months now. I think it is a great amp for the money. The only downside is that it has only one channel, so you may need to buy a pedal if you plan on switching from a clean to distorted sound during a set. It also may sound a little thin for some players taste. Other than that it is an amazing amp. The Windsor is great for brit tones, nice and crunchy. I highly reccomend it!

I tried out the studio with my 52 hot rod tele at a local music store. Fit and finish is pretty darn tight and looks are cool and retro. The sound was variable depending on the tubes you can easily change out. This is a feature I really like. With the removal of four screws on the tube cover(attenuator location) you remove and install a tube without having to worry about bias, it is self biasing.

I also like the xlr out so you can go direct to a board for live performance (I mic my Valveking amp with a Sennheiser 609.) This feature would allow me to record at home and not have to worry about the mic getting moved from the "perfect" spot in front of the speaker.

I mainly play jazz, blues and country, so the distortion is right up my alley. I use a Boss ME-50 for effects and can always dial up a heavier distortion if I need it.

The speaker out is also a nice option to have on hand, since I like to play with a 2x10 cabinet.

I do wish the amp had two distinct channels, one clean and one overdrive like my Valveking. Overall I was impressed with it, especially for the price.

This amp is absolutley amazing. You can get an amazing SRV tone out of it. I was a little leary about the wattage but this thing can crank. I also have a Valve King. But this amp is just simply amazing. If you want to get into a single channel amp and one with great sound buy this!

very good if you upgrade it

This amp is very good if you are willing to upgrade it. The stck EL34 to me sounded horrible and the stock speaker makes everything sound thing and shrilly. I had a 6L6 and an Eminence GB sitting around and it approved the sound considerably.

This won't do rock tones unless your rock tones are in the Beatles, ELO type, st least mine wouldn't. I have heard some that sounded decent, but my chinese variant couldn't do it. I added a EH Metal Muff, and it now sounds great for rock music. The thing is loud too, it has no problems hanging out with my drummer.

I am not new to tube amps, I have two XXX's, have had Crate Stealths, VC50, two Epiphone Valve Stds, an Epi Valve jr, and Peavey Valveking head and combo at one time or another and always wanted to try this out. Stock, this isn't any better than my Epiphone Valve Std, just louder, in fact it was more sterile than the Epi, but with the changes it does the job, and sounds real nice. I would recommend this amp, and with the changes give this a four star rating, but only if you have the money to upgrade it.
