This amp is great i was just looking for an upgrade for an amp (i had a little 5 watt Kustom). So i was looking at this one for a while at a local music store and when i saw it had all the effects i had to have it, it does have the on-board tuner but i find that it's very hard to use. Over all a great buy.

I bought this amp with my Epiphone Vintage G-400 back in February 09'. I was looking for a practice amp I could play around with a bit.(Via the modeling.) I am pleased with the clean chanells of this amp, CHORUS. Has a rich, full sound in my opinion. But most of the other settings sound really synthetic to me. With a lot of hissing and fuzz, not in a good way... But the tuner is pretty good on it. For a practice amp in this price range, I say it is okay. But could be way better. A lot to be desired for effects. Also, mine came with no instructions, just a dvd you can watch. Anyway for those of you who like it, no pun intended, just wasn't for me. And the Epiphone G-400, A whole nother issue... Thanks for your time.

I absolutely love the versatility of this little amp. I actually gig with it, and when its miked it sounds phenominal. I keep it on a clean setting and use my processor through it. I never thought I would find an amp this small that I have to turn down, yes I said turn down. I have played through vox, marshall, fender, crate, orange, randall, and peavey for amps, and I have to say that the Vypyr series by Peavey is the very best in modeling amps I have ever seen.

My New Favorite Practice Amp

My original intentions for purchasing this amp was being able to play outside of my home without lugging around a, oh lets say, 60lb amplifier everywhere. For the past few months, I've had very little free time between work and school (which is about 66 hours of my week), so I decided it was time to downsize my musical gear (instead of dragging around a 100W peavey Valve King 212). I narrowed my search down to three amps I wanted, the Line 6 Spider III 15W, The Roland Cube 15X, and the Peavey Vypyr 15W.

First I used the knowledge from previous experience with half stack version of the Spider III to come to the conclusion that I would not want that monstrosity, despite the fact that it is significantly cheaper.

Second I looked at the number of effects that each amp had to offer. The Line 6 had their four channels, clean, crunch, metal, and insane. The Cube offered distortion and overdrive channels with a power squeezer, yeah nice. Then I took a look at the Vypyr. This amp has distortion emulation of all of the high end Peaveys (6505, XXX, JSX), a Krankenstein emulator, a Mesa Rectifier model, and seven other rather impressive amp models.

That sold me. I ordered it from musiciansfriend.com, and in three days I got it; I hooked it up and turned it on, and I was instantly blown away by the sound (and the fact the amp is rather loud for its size, even on one).

The amp is extremely light (especially in comparison to my other amps); it is very portable, but the wood doesn't seem like it could handle much wear and tear; it feels like compressed wood.

I've tested it on a few of my recent recordings, and (I'm not an audiophile, but) it sounds great to me. I just haven't got it to a decent enough setting where the distortion isn't so overbearing that it is drowning out the nuances of the composition, but that can be worked out.

Short-and-simple, this amp is impressive! For the price, it can't be beat for its quality. For anyone, from beginners to people who have been playing for seven years and need a smaller amp for their busy lifestyle (rather specific on that note, but), this amp will impress you!
