The all-tube Peavey JSX 212 Joe Satriani Combo guitar amplifier translates the tonal flexibility and responsive, versatile gain structure of the JSX Joe Satriani Signature Head into a combo amp. It is the latest product of Peavey's partnership with legendary virtuoso Joe Satriani.

Augmenting the original JSX amp's 3-channel, 120W configuration are two custom-designed 12" JSX speakers in an open-back design, reverb with master control, and a line out with level control. This Peavey combo amp also includes global presence and resonance controls; 3-band EQ and level on each channel; FAT switches, and fully adjustable noise gates for the Ultra and Crunch channels.

"We designed the JSX 212 not only for practicality, but also for tone and versatility," says Satriani. "The amp's tone comes to life in a big way using this 2x12 design, and the relationship between the combo and the player sets up an interesting interplay that you can't get with a head. It's a special experience having the amp and speakers in one unit."

Very versatile amp

I picked this amp up around January and now I feel that I can give it a proper review.

Clean channel:Very nice, especially with some chorus or moderate delay from my MXR carbon copy. The voicing is a bit on the dark side, which is great for jazz and other complex styles. The EQ is balanced well, and it retains dynamics even when pushed hard. This amp has a lot of headroom,so if you want a break up type sound then a low gain setting on the crunch channel would probably be your best bet.

Crunch channel: Anything from bluesy break up to 80's rock. This is the channel to go for if you want classic rock and vintage distortion tones.I'm not a huge fan of it,but that isn't because it's bad,it's simply because I've never really been a mid-gain tone type of guitarist.

Ultra channel:Now,this is where the amp really shines in my opinion. This channel oozes tight and dynamic modern high gain tones that are harmonically alive and clear as a bell.I exclusively play seven string guitars and the bass response on this channel makes the low B ring through without any muddiness at all. It's balanced well, like all the other channels, and can go from punk and 80's metal tones all the way to brutal modern metal.Throw an OD pedal in the mix and I don't see how you could need any more gain.

Overall:With 3 versatile channels, voicing switches for the OD channels,a warm reverb, and a built in noise gate, this amp can handle just about anything you throw at it.It is a bit expensive, but the quality and sound is well worth the price.I've had mine or about a year and it has become an invaluable part of my sound both live and at home.Check it out if you get the chance, you owe it to yourself to play one of the most versatile amps out there.

Very versitile amp

I've had this amp for a few years and I couldn't be happier. The first time I plugged into it, I knew it was the one for me. I did have an effects loop problem with my original amp where the sound would cut in and out with the effects button pushed, but my replacement amp has worked great...for the past 2 years. I gig a few times a month with this amp (play with a PRS custom 24) and have had so many compliments on my sound. The cleans are great, the crunch gives you the driving rock and roll sound and the ultra gives sustain for days. By the way, a Keeley modded tube screamer sounds so great with the clean setting! I'm able to pull off SRV through Ozzy with this amp. Love it!

I have not had a lot of experience with tube amps(I like the smooth cleans I get from my fender 1/2 stack)but when I plugged into this amp I said "now this is a good sounding amp." Well after a few visits to the store I have bought it. The clean is clear and bright where you want it and not muddy. The crunch and ultra channels will melt the walls. They are not clouded. They are laced with harmonics. Buy this thing if you can it is awesome. My only beef would be that the one little handle on the top just is not enough, this thing weighs a ton. Some 1/2 stack handles on the side would be a little better.

2 Years and going strong

I bought this puppy in October of 06, and have been gigging with it for the last 2 years. I'm still on the original tubes, and see no reason to swap 'em out yet. The thing is a TANK, in both tone and weight. After a little bit of tolex scuffing, I opted to get a road case w/ wheels, which will keep her going for years...I've had Peavey amps since the 70's, off and on (still have a couple 70's bass amps that still work flawlessly). I'm not nuts about the clean channel, but, it's really geared towards being a "platform" for your pedals, giving you the opportunity to put what you want in there without major coloration from the amp (it succeeds). The Crunch and Ultra channels BOTH thrill me. I still, after 2 years, plug in and smile simultaneously. I rated features at 4.5 as it does ALL I need, but, the noisegate is not impressive. 4.5 in quality, no problems at all with it, but don't want to be too generous. 2.5 in value as had I not gotten the deal on mine that I did, this IS a good chunk of change. Overall 4.0 - I have heard better, but not for this price. It's a solid, dependable, GREAT sounding, INCREDIBLY versatile, INCREDIBLY responsive amp.
