I"ve owned a few of these amimals over the years, keep coming back to them. The clean channel can be tamed to a useable tone regardless of other claims, crunch channel is pretty cool, ZZ top just got paid sounds cool through it, metal channel is why its famous, no need to elaborate on it, it awesome, set the gain at 6 and shred. it does lack some fine tuning but overall really great amp, rivals those costing thousand dollars more. but if you want a straight up metal amp, look no further

Best amp I've ever played/owned. I've used Mesa Boogie dual and triple rectifiers, Peavey 5150, Orange tiny terror, Marshall jcm 800; This amp beats them all! I've been an avid musician for 10yrs.I can achieve crisp clean tones, marshall overdrives, and soaring lead tones with this amp.

Seriously as a guitarist who has been at it for over ten years, this is by far the BEST amp I have ever played. I've played Bogner, Mesa, Orange, Marshall, you name it. Everyone seems to like this amp for its heaviness for it is an EXTREMELY brutal amp. But, when you roll that gain knob back to about 7 put the bass up to 7 and put up the presence to 8, the mid to 2 1/2 and the treble at 4, this amp puts out the cleanist most crisp distortion I have ever heard. No amp comes close to this in value or tone. The Clean on this amp is a tad bit bright but, its all about the presence knob on this amp. If you know how to work with the presence knob, this amp will do wonders for your tone. I may play with a PRS custom 24 out of it which could be a major contributing factor, but this amp overall with other guitars is amazing too. You can play almost any genre of music on this amp if you know how to dial it and have the right set of speakers. I use the Marshall 1960 cab with this head, the peavey speakers just don't do it justice in my opinion. Get your hands on one asap and you won't be disapointed.

I played the peavy 6505+ at my local music center and was blown away! I had to have it. It was a little pricy but overall the quality and wonderful tone you get out of this head is amazing. I played on the peavy valve king as well and it was good for a "starter" amp head but if you have the extra cash, shell it out on this bad boy. I pluged it up to my digitech pedal(DigiTech RP500 Guitar Multi Effects Pedal)to give it some effects cause it was dry(no reverb).I am a active muscian an take it to all my shows, love it! Buy it!

Don't listen to negative reviewers!

This amp is a staple of most heavy metal recording studios. It's an extremely high gain amp, but it really does well if you roll off the preamp a little bit. By playing with the EQ, you can customize it to the tone you like (scoop the mids, give it a thicker sound with the resonance, etc).

There are many more people who love this amp than people that hate it. Consider that most of the people who love this amp won't review it, and people who dislike this amp (for whatever reason) are going to want to voice their opinion.

It's a great amp! If it's between this and a recto, go with the 5150... You'll save money and you won't have a muddy nu-metal amp (with useless technology)that will be blown away in the mix by a 5150.
