The Peavey 3120 high-gain guitar amplifier head is a versatile 3-channel amp with 120 watts of power and a trio of distinct voices capable of producing guitar tones from crisp and clean to total high-gain saturation.

The Peavey 3120 gives rock guitar players a triple-threat tone onslaught with generous amounts of gain, 120 watts of power, and 3 fully independent channels of all-tube, tone-shaping satisfaction. The Lead and Rhythm channels feature gain and volume controls and an active 3-band EQ, while the Clean channel offers nicely rounded tones crafted by a passive 3-band EQ and volume control. A global master volume governs the amount of power delivered by its 4 EL34 or 6L6GC power-amp tubes, while the Gain controls on the Lead and Rhythm channels adjust the amount of 12AX7 gain saturation.

The 3120 rear panel hosts a unique Peavey custom tone control feature, a 3-setting damping switch that alters speaker resonance to create tight, medium, and loose tones—from a precise punch for rhythmic attack to a full, widely resonant sound. Also on the amp head's rear panel is a footswitchable effects loop with dedicated Send and Return controls and a Line Out with Level control.

Peavey 3120 120W Tube Guitar Amp Head Features:

  • 120 watts into 16, 8 or 4 ohms (switchable)

I played a JSX the same day that i tryed this, and they are similar voiced, probably because of the el34s. But they are both nice sounding amps. The JSX sounds a bit better to me, but this one for the price wins as its is a bit cheaper. The dampening switch on the back is a nice addition which allows you slightly alter the way the speakers produce your sound. It has plenty of gain for me on the Rhythm and Lead Channel, the clean channel is nice and clean, and loud, it kept up well with the rhythm and lead channel. Its a nice amp.

Best Metal Amp

This is the best amp I have played in years, I have owned Marshalls, Mesas, Line 6, other Peaveys and this amp rules. For the most part it is a triple xxx with el34's instead of 6l6's. It is a fantastic metal amp, I use the crunch channel as it gets all the gain you could ever want but it still cuts without getting muddy. There is not a whole lot of difference between the lead and crunch channels with the same settings except that the crunch is slightly more defined sounding. It's easy to find a great sound by plugging straight in and tweaking the e.q. the effects loop can also be used as a lead boost by turning the send level up. The el34's are great, especially when it comes to lead work, individual notes ring out and are harmonically rich, pinch harmonics sound great. Don't waste your money on a marshall or mesa boogie head chech this head out, it's loud and bold. If you play at a loud volume you will need a noise suppressor to kill the sqeal when you mute the strings also i recommend a good cabinet that can handle a lot of bottom end. Iuse cabs with vintage 30's and it sounds great

Excellent Amp!

I compared this amp side by side to a Crate BV(older model), a new Crate BV, a line 6 bogner tube head, mesa dual rectifier, and a 5150. The 3120 absolutely RULES! What I really like about this head is that it doesn't have that noisy high-mid frequency that most high gain amps have too much of. This is the ultimate metal amp and I can bet my life everyone is gonna start buying these things! They are cheap and peavey is immortal! It is a very low noise amp as well. I can't believe it doesn't have reverb though...I'll survive. Just buy it. Oh, I upgraded my cab to a Krank cab, holy crap!

Amazing Amp!

I recently purchased this head at a local store. All I can say is wow. This head has an great clean channel which can bite when you want it to, or smooth out perfectly. The rhythm channel packs a lot of punch. It has plenty of gain for crushing metal, but you can also get a great rock sound as well. The lead channel is great for a blistering solo or melodic lead. It can cut through the mix, but retain a lot of fullness. This amp is very versitile and will suit your playing needs. The price tag is a great bonus.
