Could have been so much better!

I bought the ONE and sent it back about a month later because it was too bright and with no tone control, you're screwed if you don't want to try and finagle it with your amp settings. All PRS had to do was make it with ONE double pot, pull up for tone, push down for volume and the problem would be solved and it could still be called ONE. So, it's too harsh without a tone control and I don't feel like paying a luthier $100 to change it to what I suggest above and add a better soapbar.

Think of this of a well-made LP Jr with PRS quality construction and attention to detail. Easy to play, and yes (see PRS site) you can adjust the intonation at the bridge to go from 9-42 to 10-46 strings (use D'Addarrio). The P-90 style pickup a little less raw than a Gibson, but it is a very nice sounding pickup that the volume control rolled back can change the way it sounds. The only negative I have is that the nut is sharp on the top edges, but this can be rounded off easily. I am told some people have no issue with it. Very nice fret work and setup, meticulous construction. In looking at many of these, to me, the Vintage sunburst seems to more likely have nicer looking matching color of the wood pieces the body is made off - that is the top horn section, simply because of the way the stain is darker in that area. The gig bag is also very nicely made. For the money, you get a very nice guitar vs some other guitar that is cheapened down version of higher priced models. Although this is made in Korea, PRS know-how is there, and their commitment for quality and consistency is there, meaning that out of the box, there is little to worry about. I made one change as I do for most of guitars, I added locking tuners. Grover 406C, mini locking rotomatics they are a are a drop in replacement. In considering my review, I want you to know I own many guitars, ES-335, 62 and 60 reissue strats, American Strat, Washburn HB-35, EPI Sheridan, teles, among many others, and would recommend this SE One to anyone, especially to new students, as I said well-made, little to break, easy to play, and light to carry around.

I have been playing this beauty for about 3 months and I felt it was time to write about it. This is easily the best guitar I have ever tried, and I have been playing for 26 years, so I have tried quite a few. The factory setup is great. The action is a bit too high, but that can be easily fixed. Personally, I hate when I have to adjust two volume controls and two tone controls on a Les Paul, so the single control on this one was a blessing. I have played different styles on it: Blues, Classic Rock, Alternative, Latin. It is great for any style, although it may be too bright for metal. The Tobacco finish looks great, and the craftmanship is great. I don't expect anything less from a PRS. My advice is to get straplocks, since you don't want this light-weight set-neck on the floor. Overall, it's an excellent guitar for the price, whether you are an intermediate, or experienced player. I don't think this one's for beginners, as the SE (Students Edition) label states.
