My guitar arsenal includes two PRS Artists (22 & 24) and a PRS “Rosewood” (= similar to the Artists, but with a rosewood unpainted neck). Strengths: these 3 PRS guitars intonate really well, the pickups (PRS Dragon II’s in the 22 Artist and the HFS bridge/Vintage Bass combo in the other two) sound good with a great variety of amps, the tremolo is one of the best non-locking ones around, the frets and action are outstanding – i.e., between 0.05” and 0.06” at the 12th fret with no buzz. Weaknesses: None of them had the control cavity properly shielded, which created unwanted hums/noises in certain electronically unfriendly environments; it’s fair to say that this potentially severe problem can be easily fixed (less than 2 hours of work and ~$10 worth of copper shielding foil). Verdict: Suhrs cost about the same, but are better made, Carvins are about the same quality, but substantially cheaper. Nevertheless, if you don’t mind the very high prize tag, try a PRS – you may like it! :)
