As far as playability it is hard to beat. The sound is good for a tin ear(had a chance to buy a Martin D28). The price is excellent for an acoustic/electric. Good choice even for a professional, ask Glen Campbell(from North Arkansas, Delight in South).

Great guitar but no Martin

The new LX series and AX Ovations are vastly superior to previous generations of Ovations. The acoustic tone is very good, but the acoustic tone cannot compare to something like a Martin D-28. That argument will not hold in acoustic circles. You are comparing the acoustic tone of a cutaway guitar with a fiberglass back, to a Martin dreadnaught standard series with solid rosewood back and sides. It is an unfair comparison.

These American made Ovations are great guitars for the purpose they serve, but they certainly can not hold up acoustically to a higher end guitar like a Collings or a Martin.

You really don't want to think of this as an acoustic guitar. It is an acoustic electric. The action is amazing. They are also very easy to setup. They play as well as an electric. They offer great amplified tone. Just don't take it to a bluegrass festival and expect it to keep up with a Martin D-28. With the Ovation, you won't be able to hear yourself over the banjo player with the Gibson RB3.

This is the best sounding acoustic I have own, I have a 2003 Gibson J-45, 2005 Martin D-28, Washburn 42-s, And a 2005 Ovation VXT elec/acoustic, My Ovation 1861 puts them all to shame, Only thing I done to the Ovation 1861 was remove the spacer under the bridge to lower the action alittle, now its perfect. Mine is this cherry burst color, very pretty and nicely put together, all fits well and sounds even better plugged in. Built in tuner is nice also to pick out notes your playing or to tune guitar, I just can't say enough good about this guitar, Its also very light weight and just feel good to hold, fits your body nice. If you decide on one I'm sure you won't be sorry.
