On first sight and thought it seems like a good thing. It can be but realize that it is an off shore production guitar and it needs things such as action set up and yes the switch and electronics are the much cheaper cost even for an off shore plant with what appears to be limited quality control from the one I was holding. The wood is Pli Wood/not choice spruce top from a temp controled stock room and it has very little to be desired within the fret job from the model I had in my hands. I wanted it but after I picked it up I didn't want it. But your probably safe with Musicians friend on returning it. Some off shore guitars will surprise you with pleasure. For me the one I had in my hands didn't. If it was made the way everyone here wants it to be made it would run you much more $$.

Good guitar with some flaws

I have two major beefs with this guitar. The first is the 3-way switch. When playing upper frets on the 6-string, your right shoulder tends toward the left (because it's more of a reach than normal) and sometimes inadvertently switches OFF the 6-string pickup! In other words, I think the switch is backwards; it should be switched left to activate the 6-string and right to activate the 12-string, but that's not how it's set up. Also, if you're a sometimes lazy player like me and like to play in a reclined position while watching TV or something, the 3-way switch can dig into your chest. There has to be a better setup for that 3-way switch.

My second beef with the guitar was the initial setup. The action from the manufacturer was pretty high on both necks. I just paid nearly a thousand bucks for this guitar, now I have to pay at least $50 more to have both necks adjusted. All the strings were extremely loose during shipping, which means that the neck probably has never been under an extended period of tension from strings...not good.

(I also busted the high G-string on the 12-string because I tuned it up to G too quickly. It's a 9-gauge string, which on most guitars gets tuned to an E, but this one needs to go all the way up to G, so be careful when tuning)

On the positive side, it has a good sound, especially when plugged into an acoustic amp. And I'll state the obvious...it's a pretty fun, attention-grabbing guitar.

I was not sure how comfortable this guitar would be to play when I ordered it. All my worries were put to rest the minute I took it out of the case. (Yes, it actually comes with a case!) This guitar looks even better than the picture and the shallow bowl makes it very easy to play while standing or sitting.

Bought this guitar for a specific purpose - as one half of an acoustic guitar duo, we sometimes need to either tune down 1/2 step or we use alternate tuning. This was a "kill 2 birds with 1 stone" purchase - tune the 12-string neck to EEBEBE and tune the 6-string neck down 1/2 step. Visually the guitar is beautiful. First thing I noticed out of the case was that the neck selector switch is very flimsy and awkwardly located. I've only used this guitar at a half dozen gigs, and at Friday night's gig there was no sound output at all. The volume slider actually came off the guitar on stage. Very embarrassing. Had to retune a standard tuned guitar to EEBEBE on the fly. We will see how Ovation handles my warranty claim. The guitar has taken no abuse at all - always in the case. I think the electronics are flimsy at best. All in all - very nice to look at, but not as well made as it appears.
