The best

I've played this guitar at my friend's house, and this is the best nylon guitar I played. It's not exactly a "classical" guitar, but classical is not my style, so it's OK. It has a nice sound, has a chromatic tuner and it is very comfortable.

A more modern classical

The instrument is well built. The fit and finish are better than you'd expect for the price. The acoustic tone is thinner than a full-sized classical, but the projection is much better than traditional designs. Mine had a small sliver of wood debris in the nut slot for the D string, causing it to buzz like a sitar when played open. I scratched the flake out of there and it's played great ever since. The preamp offers a lot of variation in sound which makes it easy to alter your tone depending on the setting in which you're playing.

This is *not* a classical guitar though. It's comfortable; everything on it is lightly closer together. The round back does have a tenency to creep outward on your leg if you play in a seated position, so you may have to jog the bottom of the body closer to you during play.

For Bossa Nova and Jazz, this a great guitar with a lot more comfort (once you sand-down the saddle a few millimeters to drop the action) than a standard-built classical in the price range.

Classical guitar for non-classical music

I got this guitar for my studio to teach with. If you are looking for a "Classical" electric acoustic guitar, this is not it. It has a shallow plastic round back, which I guess Ovation fans are crazy about, and doesn't have the resonance/acoustics you expect from a "classical" guitar. Plus, the rounded back keeps slipping off my thigh when I played with my footstool. However, it sounded pretty good when I plugged it in to my mixer with some lexicon reverbs and strummed some bossa-novas and jazz. The neck is narrower than Classical guitar's neck and VERY thin. I guess it's good for plugged live performance and recording, but NOT for classical. Oh, by the way, the built-in tuner was neat!!

A highly playable, versatile gem of an instrument

This guitar is an excellent and versatile instrument, well suited to both students and professionals alike. To quote my drummer, "If my first acoustic guitar had been this comfortable and easy to play, I'd probably have become a guitarist." As with most Ovations, while this guitar sounds fine for playing solo acoustically, it really shines when plugged in, especially if you know how to use the built in EQ - try it through a small stereo PA or, better yet, a stereo modelling unit plugged into a small stereo PA. Do yourself a favour, and put a set of D'Addario Pro Arte Composite strings on it - you'll be delighted with the tonal improvements.

Nice in between

This is a beautiful guitar. I have big fingers and the extra wide neck feels great. This is definitely what one should consider a hybrid. Not quite a classical guitar that is for sure. It is ideal for the Jazz player who wants to do a bit of everything else. Action is good, no fret buzz and for price I would recommend this guitar to anyone.
