Ovation's award-winning multi-soundhole technology is now incorporated into the Applause AE148. Its full, balanced sound is pumped out through the calibrated spruce top and fine-tuned bracing. The Lyrachord body allows for the back of the guitar to be free of reinforcements that can inhibit sound projection. A slim contoured neck allows for fast and effortless playing that suits any style from finger picking to power chords.

Ovation's Slimline pickup captures true acoustic tone and delivers a powerful signal with plenty of headroom to combat feedback in high-volume conditions. The OP-4B active preamp has a gain knob; a battery LED; plus independent bass, mid, and treble EQ sliders.

Ok, I rated the features as a 5 simply because it's a cheaper model and what it offers is all I need, everything else comes from my pedals and board. Now, I hear a lot about feedback problems with this model but I have never had any trouble with feedback at all, and in some places my monitors are very close to me, which tells me people need a better understanding of frequency modulation on their board.

I love this guitar and it's bright tones and am glad I added it to my other Ovation's. Unplugged it doesn't sound all that great but I never bought it to play unplugged and mic'd.

Great guitar in my books.

I really had my mind set on buying myself my dream guitar - an Adamas - but realized that I could dream a little cheaper and get more equipment. I was leery of buying this guitar, but was pleasantly surprised.

This model still has the neat "raspy" sound I desired to play Heart songs and sound like the recording. Although there's not a whole lot of control over the settings - hey, it's a bargain model - the sound is crisp and clear and the fretboard has great action! All my friends have fallen in love with it and I plan on buying some as graduation presents in December of this year!

There is a tendency for some feedback, but if you have the room for better placement this is easily solved. There are sound hole covers that can be purchase through Ovation (I couldn't find any on Musician's Friend, but they might carry them as well, just call.)

This guitar wears well and has produced some really great sound for my needs. I still desire an Adamas (maybe next year!), but am thoroughly satisfied with this model. PS: Crazy on You sounds fantastic!

I got this guitar as a birthday gift a few years ago. Hey, she didn't know what she was doing, and the gesture was appreciated. But, it's a horrible instrument. Unplugged, it sounds cheap. Plugged in, wow- you've got problems. It's a passive preamp. Volume and tone, that's it. It's shrill, and VERY prone to feedback! The finish cracked after a year, and overall, it holding up as well as a cheap guitar should. Spend a little more. Anyone wanna buy a used AE148? Please?

I bought mine a few weeks ago. For the $$$, a very good deal. Of course finer details of the guitar are not that of the higher priced ovations (i.e. visible glue runs in the sound holes). But hey I expect stuff like that from a guitar in this price range. The most important thing is that it is very playable. Plays nice and has the "sound" of better ovations.

I bought this for a country/rock band that I've been playing with. Add just a touch of grit and ya can get some greasy acoustic blues stuff.

For the price of this guitar, I was surprised by it quality. The intonation is good up and down the neck and the projection of sound through the sound holes on the upper bout is kind of amazing for it being a "super shallow" bowl. It has a much bigger sound than you would expect. The neck is quite slim, more like the width of a solid body electric than an acoustic. (Which I like) Mine came with D'Addario EXP strings, probably start with 11. The action is really good out of the box and with the light strings it frets easily. Obviously, all manufacturers make good products and let a few slip through QA, but I got a good one. I have played the actual Ovation model of this guitar, and can't honestly tell much difference - except the price tag.
