Went in to buy a Gibson and walked out with this. Suprising warmth. Very easy to play. Louder than expected. Finish is top of the line. However, the reason it was purchased was for the tone. It is tight, controlled and balanced.

i bought this guitar used at a local music store, i didnt knwo what i was getting, its amazing, and i love it, its got a greattone, and a beautiful sound, it even has a tuner on it! haha

This has now become my 3rd Ovation, and most certainly the last acoustic guitar I will need to buy. Each of my 2 prior Ovations were upgrades to better models. I purchase this earlier in the yaer but wanted to hold off on a review until I had some time into it.

Out of the box, (black version) it was the most beautiful guitar I had ever seen. While it played nice, there was some room for improvement on the setup. I found that with the stock shim, the action was a little too high, and without it a little too low. I replaced the stock shim with one made from material 1/2 the thickness. Add to that a set of extra light strings and now I have the finest playing acoustic I have ever played. I hear the same thing from anyone who plays it. It seriously plays as well as my Gibson SG electric.

The sound unplugged is wonderful. I no longer get drowned out by other acoustics like I did with my earlier (less expensive) Ovations. Plugged in has also exceeded my expectations. Whether I plug directly into th PA or even running through my Marshall, it sounds great!

As far as price, in my opinion it's worth every penny. As it stands right now, I would pay more if I had to. I have received more compliments on this guitar than anything in my entire life.

Summary; it looks beautiful, it plays like a dream, and the sound is incredible.

Just got my Ovation Elite LX 1778 in Black, and I have always wanted and Ovation and have played on Taylors, Takamines, and Martins but nothing compares to the engineering that went into this incredible guitar..I just got mine last month and it makes me want to practice and play more often due to the comfort when seated and the tremendous sound and resonance..Every one of my friends who comes over has to pick it up and play! I know that the "purist's" steer away from non-traditional materials but the sound(s) speak for themselves..I'll never part with this guitar and take it with me everywhere in all conditions as the built in tuner always keep up with temperature and hunidity changes and you always stay in tune..Hat's off to the folks at Ovation..The best all around sound on stage , studio, and even outdoors as the brilliance and volume make an amplifier almost un-necessary with this puppy..

In 1977 a guy on the ship I was on had an Ovation and said one day I would own one. Now I have two, an S861 Balladeer Special and my New Elite LX 1778LX Natural, which I love. This is one beautiful Guitar. I've owned many guitars and Ovation is my favorite by far. The tone is superb. The action on the neck is fast and smoothe. The medium bowl has such a different sound than the shallow bowl on the S861. The new Inlaid Exotic Wood Epaulets are attractive and produce a great sound. I would recommend this guitar to anyone. The onboard tuner is great and The Pro OP system is easy to use. The price is great. Plugged-in or Unplugged, EXCELLENT GUITAR. Buy this guitar you won't regret it.
