I have been looking for a pedal that takes me from clean to dirty just in how I strike the strings...tube break up is really the only way you get that. I own an early ProCo Rat and a EH Big Muff Pi among other things. The TD-1 is an amazing choice for those looking for subtle break up.

I play an ltd ec-1000 deluxe with a fender MH-500, I hooked up the TD-1 put my Metal Head on clean and I loved it. I still have a lot more messin with it to do. But I love it. I bought it caz I wanted a tube sound with a solid state amp and that exactly what I got, the thing is built like a rock.

I have been using an old NAdy TO-2 tube overdrive for 15 or so years. I find most transistor only boxes irritating, having grown up with loud easily distortable amps. I was going to get a boutique box but this one is the real deal for the money and even if it was more ! With the switches you can make it sound like lot's of different things and I like being able to swtch out the mid hump. The real secret is to start with things fairly flat- most of the eq knobs at 12;00. the eq sliders at flat and the middle gain option. the squeeze up a little of the eq's and go to town. I might change out thew tube for a better one but it looks like major surgery. A tough and ready box.

Great Tube Tone

I have a Randall Rg75G2 Solid State amp and I was looking for a distortion pedal with more tube harmonics. This is in my opinion one of the best on the market and is as flexible as the Radial Tonebone. While I realize this is not "true tube tone," it can make any solid state amp sound really good and I'm sure would sound great in front of any tube amp. Give this one a try. It has been around for 20 or so years for a reason!

Surprising Performance that Exceeded Expectations

I wasn't expecting a whole lot from this unit but when it went on sale I just had to check it out. I'm a sucker for music devices with vacuum tubes in them! I tried the TD-1 out with a variety of tube, solid-state and hybrid amps... Fender, Marshall, GT and Music Man. I also checked it out with a Stratocaster as well as a Les Paul.

I was pleasantly surprised to find a very wide range of distortion tones, higher gain than expected at the highest settings, lower noise than expected and a TRUE bypass when switched out.

The EQ options are another standout... you can easily go from "creamy" to "buzz saw" with the options available!

The case is very heavy duty and the unit should take a lot of abuse as long as you don't step on the slide switches and pots!

This unit will not replace my normal tube amp and tube preamp distortion selections, but it is a welcome option for some different tonality and some foot-switchable gain boost with EQ. I have purchased a lot of distortion devices over the years and I have been disappointed in most of them. This one surprised me... it's a keeper!

This is a valid tool to add to my toolbox o' tone and the price was right! Thanks MF!
