I bought this guitar about 8 years ago or so. I went to the guitar center and after trying some similarly priced strats (fat and single coil) and some ibanez side by side I chose this guitar. The neck is very fast smooth and comfortable. Comfortable is this guitars forte. It's light, sits on your leg and doesn't move, it's balanced. The tuners are quality, the pickups are great, the bridge has tons of bite and cut, the mid has that strat single coil feel articulation, sensitivity and twang, and the rhythm position has great smooth full rounded sounds that really fill a room. My only complaint about this guitar is the tremolo system, I stretch my strings constantly, use the whammy bar lots but she still falls out of tune mildly, or enough to hear the difference after a substantial whammy move. If whammy bar is a vital component of your style I would sugguest getting a Vai or Satriani model with the edge tremolo because I hear they hold tune much better. (but can be a pain to set up and keep set up). Other than that an awesome guitar for a very reasonable price. If you can step it up to the more expensive model with the piezo do it because you'll have more tone options. I am kinda pissed at John for not making any pull nobs like the Satriani model to give you more sounds. Other than that awesome quality instrument, Music Man is also one of the last quality companies out there making guitars that rival the quality of the old days (gibsons and fenders) according to keith richards. Oh yea and the arm cutaway is a godsend for your picking arm, so comfortable, and you can rest your hand lightly on the bridge and it doesn't fall out of tune. A great guitar for a great price. Looks beautiful too, full of quality.

Petrucci JP6 basic model. This is a nice guitar. It is made well, it sounds nice and it stays in tune well. I think the quality is higher than similarly priced famous name brand models such as American Fender Strats and American Gibson Les Paul Studio's. It feels kind of like a strat. The middle pickup combination on the three way switch makes it sound twangy which is a really nice feature. The neck pickup is fluid and full sounding. The bridge pickup is so-so (a seymour pickup will make a big difference). Ernie ball makes top quality instruments. I've never played a nicer, more well made guitar.

I have had many guitars. I have been playing for 21 years now and this is my main and one of my favorite guitars by far.

I've had this guitar for about a month now and I'm very pleased with it, it's become my main guitar (over a Dean ML Time Capsule & Razorback Custom, Fender Strat Ultra, ESP Standard Viper, EVH Wolfgang). Overall I have to say this guitar is a great value and offers some great features. (1) The overall finish on the guitar is very good. The neck joint is very tight, the set up was good out of the box (action was "medium" and had to be lowered). (2) Pickups - first, get the Piezo. You may not think you'll want it, but when you try it you'll appreciate getting it. Overall the pickups on the guitar are very articulate. Not the highest output pickups, but that can be adjusted with your amp. Even at high distortion you can hear your pick attack and individual notes. I've found that the middle selection "humbucker split" (the bottom coil of the neck & the upper coil of the bridge pickup) sound is really nice. There is a volume drop when you select this setting, but the sound is close to a Strat with a little Tele twang. The output on the Piezo pickup is really bright and pretty high, which can be adjusted on the backside of the guitar. The Piezo really does give this guitar another dimension (note - sometimes when the Tremelo is depressed the Piezo will "cut out" on some strings - this is because the string is losing contact with the Piezo in the saddle and is Normal, as confirmed by MM). Overall, the pickups make this an extremely versatile guitar. (3) Tremelo - is similar to a Wilkinson. I have a couple guitars with Floyd's and this system is so much easier and is much better at staying in tune (and it doesn't change pitch just by resting your hand on it). The Tremelo has a metal cover just behind the saddles which is very comfortable for resting your picking hand. It's in a recessed cavity so you can also raise the pitch of the strings (unlike the EVH Wolfgang). Very smooth action; (4) Neck and FB - the neck was relatively straight out of the box. I've noticed some fret buzz, but my action is low, so I will have to adjust the relief. The shape of this neck is OUTSTANDING. It's a flat radius rosewood fretboard with a thinner neck. The neck is thin but not a Jackson type super thin neck. Its fast and very comfortable. The frets are high-profile and wide, but not super jumbo frets that make playing more difficult. (5) Body style - This may be the best part of this guitar! The cut out for your picking arm in the body is extremely comfortable and doesn't put your arm to sleep. The access to the high frets is perfect too. It's just very comfortable and easy to play. And it comes with the backing of MM - some of the best customer service you can get. They actually answer their phones! Last note - people looking at the EVH Wolfgang. This guitar has a lot more tonal features at half the price. The EVH has hotter outputs and the production quality is a little higher, but its twice the cost.

I bought the basic model ( no piezo) about a year ago and I still enjoy playing it. I love the neck and prefer strat styled guitars for the comfort. I didn't mind the pick ups at first but I wanted more punch so I swapped them out for some Dave Mustaine Livewires. I play through a Dual Rectifier and now it has some punch power!! Overall I do recommend this guitar, the mechanics are great and the price is fair. That has got to mean something because I rarely hang on to a guitar for more than a year.
