I felt compelled to post on here after playing an Axis at my local music shop. Personally, it wasn't very comfortable for me, but that's just a personal thing. This is a very well made guitar, flawless down to the most minor detail. It also sounded great. Although I wouldn't buy it, if it feels good in your hands, buy it, it sounds and looks that amazing!

The same guitar without the EVH name

I always wanted the EVH version of this guitar but couldn't afford it back in the early 90's. This guitar is the same thing without the EVH name on it. It plays great, it looks different yet cool. The neck is unfinished and feels great. I don't rate setup because that's something I always do myself and you should learn to do it too. Most guys set their action WAY too low and then they get buzzing. That ain't the guitar's fault.

Like the Real Thing

I have played a lot of guitars especially EVH models and this rivals anything I've played. The action on this guitar is suburb it plays fast if your interested in smooth fast "shredding" this guitar is a must own. And the bolt on neck like some lower end guitars has no effect on the sustain. It also features a single volume knob just like a real EVH guitar and it has a two pick-up toggle switch to control the two custom pick-ups they have a blistering high end and a corroding low end this guitar is a steal. If your interested in taking your playing too a new level this guitar is the guitar to do it.

Music Man Axis

I always wanted to get one of these since I am a huge EVH fan. The guitar looks great and for the price, I expected an exceptional instrument. Unfortunately, I didn't find this. I think the materials (woods, hardware, finish, etc.) are top notch, but the quality control is shoddy. I ended up getting two of them and returned both to MF since I wasn't happy. The first one had neck pocket cracks - which isn't the manufacturers fault - probably happened in transit. The high e-string was also too close to the edge and would fall off the end of the fretboard when doing vibrato. On the 2nd one, the floyd was not flush with the body. With normal action, the floyd base plate had to lean far back to touch the body. For the money, you shouldn't have these issues. On both, I also found the frets too low and had more buzzing than I like. I did setups (truss rod adjustment, string height, etc.) for both, but it didn't help my taste for it. Again, I really wanted to like this guitar, but just couldn't. If you are smart, I think you should save up more $ to get a premium guitar with more consistent quality / playability (e.g. Suhr, Anderson, etc.). My two cents..........

Great versatile electric....

I bought my Musicman Axis when I was 15 after my first ever summer job. Let me tell you it was worth the summer's saving. The basswood body is complimented by the maple top giving a very balanced tone. With an overdriven sound you can get deep growling tone but with clarity at the same time which is very reminiscent of many EMG-equipped guitars. At the same time play cleans and the maple top and neck really stand out; you can really run the gamut of clean tones here from warm and smooth almost jazz-esque tones to snappy bright strat and tele cleans. The neck is not too thick not too thin with a great setup and absurdly low action. This is definitely a shredder's guitar if you want it to be, I mean face it, it was originally the Van Halen signature model. The floyd isn't floating but is one of the highest quality locking trems I've ever had the pleasure of using. I almost never tune it and it's never needed repairs ONCE in 6 years of regular gigging, teaching, jamming and daily practice. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a sonically versatile quality player's guitar...
