Morley Hum Cycler

...for me, anyway. Some say it works fine (are you doing Johnny Thunders covers?) so I kept my rating at 2.5 as not to be a total downer. I ran a Blues Jr. on channel A and an overdriven Vox AC4TV Head w/Epi 12" cab on channel B. The idea was to have some clean/overdriven joy, sans pedals, in my basement jam area. What I got, in addition to the anticipated alternating/combined dual amp tones, was a Morley Buzzmaster. The unit did exactly what it said, including the "possible" noise loop advertised on the package. I'm not crazy, so if it works for you, more power to you. Me? I've got a Radial Bigshot on the way. In fairness, the Morley Noise Loop Creator did function, but it created the nasty buzz that I had feared. The fix, as advertised within the packaging and quickly found online, only costs a mere $105.00. What? No thanks. The Morley does light up with a 9v battery, so it's got that going for it over the Radial. Caveat emptor, and I’m the dope that tried to save thirty bucks, but MF and GC are good about their return policies so all’s well that end’s well.

does the job

I don't use a battery in this at all. I use it between cables going to one amp. I do this so that I can extend the cable run, without using a battery powered pedal, and at the same time, to use it as a kill switch for that amp. The problem I have is I tend to walk around a lot while playing and the guitar cable gets caught up on the swithcing mechanism VERY frequently. It would be a better design if guitar cables glided over the switches rather than get caught up on them.

Morley AB-WHY?

OK, let me start by saying I love Morley products... now, the Morley AB-Y. I put this AB-Y on my pedal board to run my Marshall JCM 900 and Crate Vintage Club 50. The only problem was when I left the Marshall set to a dirty tone and switched over to the Crate for a Clean tone, the Marshall started squealing and and feeding back like crazy. I have a HumX and that didn't help anything. What did help was taking this back and exchanging it for a Radial Bigshot AB-Y. If you're using 2 clean amps or doing the 2 guitars into 1 amp thing, this box should be ok.

Wrong circuit design.

This is the wrong circuit design for this type of product. I just hooked it up to my H&K Duotone combo and tried using the combo with it, then without the unit. There is a noticeable different in tone when using the unit. When using the unit your tone is slightly thinner and lacking certain frequencies. Their input and output impedances must be all whack. This unit is not "true bypass" like it claims. I going to return it next time I hop into my car. I was going to use this to track 2 amps simultaneously per each guitar part, but I guess I will just do one amp at a time with a different miking technique. Hope this review helps.

ABY boxes are handy, especially if you use a '64 Bandmaster (like mine) that has no channel switching. This unit solves the problem, and can also be used to switch between multiple amp setups. (also like mine) Or, use it backwards to run two guitars into one amp. AB boxes do NOT cause hum...when you connect two amps together, the amp grounds have to be the same. AB boxes are only switches... there is nothing in there TO hum. This uses one 9v battery for the LED's so you know what's going where. Mine is built like a tank and has a black wrinkle paint finish ...wicked sexy! I highly recommend this unit.
