Michael Kelly Patriot

I played one of these yesterday at a local store, the exact black one pictured. The picture does no justice to this beautiful instrument.

I have a PRS McCarty that I use as my gauge against others of the same design. This one is pretty close, even for an import. The best feature of the McCarty is present here, the very sensitive volume taper, goes from smooth jazz tone, to rage with just the volume, as pickups of this nature should be voiced and controlled. Same two knob, one threeway of the standard McCarty design.

The finish was everybit as good as my PRS, the Knobs are a tasteful touch, not too much flash, except the inlay. AH... the inlay, confusing, making you rely on side markers, and visually, you loose the side markers amidst the beautiful inlay, which is so beautiful, it takes your mind off the task at hand, staying in key, and on time. I had problems finding A barre automatically, I would repeatedly go to A Sharp.

If at 50 yrs. of playing it confuses me...well. If this guitar came with no inlay and abalone markers, it would be perfectly accented.

It tuned up nicely, stayed in tune with sharp over bends, behind the nut tricks, and country steel bends. Balled up, it's a screamer, it's not a light guitar, I felt the heft immediately, it translates to good sustain.

I would have prefered a wraparound bridge, but only because of the success and playability of that bridge on the PRS.

The color was not dull at all, very gloss finish, nice headstock moniker badge, looks metal, looks class. Good tuners, smooth, accurate. A good axe allround. I will seriously consider a Michael Kelly at my next guitar purchase round.

This guitar is amazing! I play many different styles of music and so far this guitar sounds great for all of them. For this you can get almost the same quality for other expensive guitars. Trust me you won't be disappointed by this guitar!!

I decided to get a new guitar for my 40th birthday. I was looking at much more expensive guitars and came accross this gem. The set up was great out the box, no fret buzz, no flaws at all. MK means quality to me. These are some of the best guitars for the money. The sound is also amazing, distorted or clean. If you are looking for a les paul style guitar at least look into the Patriot series. You'll really do yourself an injustice if you buy something else without trying one of these babies out...

I've owned a patriot glory for almost a year now, and I gotta say it's wonderful. You can get so many different sounds from the coil taps, pickup selector, and single tone knob... it's unreal, especially on a clean channel. my action is set real low, don't have any buzz... it's so smooth and fast, really the most comfortable guitar i've ever played speed licks on, and i've wasted a number of days at music stores playing everything they'd let me get my hands on.

This is one beautiful guitar! I have never played a Michael Kelly until I opened up this guitar today, new out of the box. Made in Korea, well made by the way. Best single cut for the money. Next step is the Gibson. The Rockfield pickups are the best sounding to me, plus you can split them to make a single coil sound. Guitar plays rhythm and lead perfect and sparkly, from jazz to hard rockin. I just had to write this, to let anyone who is looking, know how awesome of a buy this is.
